based on another thread, I scouted out the RR board...came upon this ignorant thread...

jebus...

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
My daughter is 7 years old (2nd grade) and attends a public grade school here in Washington State.

I was just informed tonight that my daughter was required to draw a picture of Obama in her art class today. My wife and I just found out tonight because my daughter was coloring a picture by herself and my wife just happen to ask what she was drawing, she said OBAMA. We asked her why and thats when she told us about her art class today. My wife and I looked at each other at the same time. To add to the insult, it is the wife of my daughters rec basketball coach.

Should I be as mad or disgusted as I am? I couldn't help but think some liberal was pushing their agenda on my kids. I can see maybe George Washington or Abraham Lincoln,.... but Obama!

Tell me I'm over reacting.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

as a "libtard public school teacher" I am offended by their comments and as I am sick and will be staying home tomorrow, I just may "FUCK" with them

ignorant assholes who are NOT christian

2. Let me ask you a question...
What if it was your child and they had him/her draw a picture of Bush when he stole the elections in '04? Would you not feel the same way. Or what if McCain had won this year and your child was forced to draw a picture of him?

I'm just guessing based on posts on this board, that most people here would react the same way if it was a republican.

33. If you'd assigned MY kid to draw a picture of Bush
I'd have been all over your ass and your principal's ass.

Have 'em draw pictures of George Washington or Abe Lincoln, but not recent presidents. That's way too touchy a subject.

like it or not, he was the president...elected or selected

as teachers, we strive to remain neutral. I had to teach about bush just like I GET to teach about Obama

we can't stick our head in the sand

26. Although a FERVENT supporter of Obama,
I still believe that poster #2 was within the range of 'valid comments". I may be wrong (only time will tell), but I find the glee by some here at a possible Tombstoning, very unsettling. If necessary, then so be it. But NO unseemly holier than thou mirth. We should be better than that!

17. Well, I think you need to guess again...
Kids of that age only know he's the POTUS. Thank goodness they don't know all the crap behind them. Let the kids do an innocent drawing of the President. Why would I fault the teacher for the assignment...he IS the current President, as in, current events?

I don't have kids but I'm as liberal as they come and I wouldn't object to a drawing of Bush and I'd never subject them to my hatred of him either. Let them retain their innocence at this age. They'll learn hate soon enough on their own.

27. Actually I would think it'd be a good assignment.
No so much because he's the current President, but because he has distinct features--he's tall and skinny and those ears!

Maybe to give the kids an idea of how to draw, how portraits are composed and how to use different styles to achieve different looks.

For instance: they can show the students paintings of previous presidents and how oil painting can be used to mimic realism. And what early painters used in the backgrounds and why.

They can also show how presidents are depicted in political cartoons. This can show the exact opposite of painting, which would be simplicity in line and color. They will learn about caricatures.

Finally, the kids might learn about photography.

But, maybe all of that is too much for kids that age to learn.

29. Actually I don't think I'd like my child (if I had one) being told to draw
a picture of a sitting President unless they were allowed free interpretation. If it were Bush and they were permitted to draw a rat or lizard as their interpretation, that would be fine by me. As long as the kids aren't being pressured to offer a particular view of the President then I see little to be offended by.

They are loony xtians of the most paranoid and ignorant variety.

If you know even a little of xtian theology, it's fun to register there and fuck with them.

I know; I've done it many times.

32. My daughter did the Bush assignment last year.
The assignment wasn't to draw Bush per se, it was to draw the current president. I saw nothing wrong with that. I went to school with a lot of her teachers, and they sure as hell aren't right wingers.

At least my younger daughter will get to draw Obama when she comes through. You can bet these same people would have had the same shit-fit if someone made a big deal out of having to draw Bush. What are they saying here? The assignment should be draw the current president unless they are a Democrat? Then draw Lincoln?

Pathetic.

36. See, here's what you don't understand about Dems

We would say, "He's the President; the assignment is encompassing current events." We don't care for B**H, and we might express our opinions to our children about B**H but we would not be so stupid as to think it was some "brainwashing" of our children.

REpukes, on the other hand, are just WAY too stupid and ignorant to understand this concept of current events. They would like to pretend Obama is not the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES because they are bigots, whiners and losers who actually HATE this nation and their fellow Americans who - VOTED FOR OBAMA!!!!!!

Get over it, ignorant Repukes. YOU LOST!!!!!!

14. No, I didn't go to the site and read any of the post
and was just debating if I should or not. I can only take scouting so many conservative websites in one day and I think I have passed my limit already.

Truth is, if you have read one radical Republican Christian web site, you have pretty much read them all. Just non ending streams of anger and hate with absolutely no factual or logical foundation. If this is the kind of love being a Christian brings to one, then I think I'm going to pass.

18. Oh yeah, they are out there all right
I grew up in that kind of environment and one of the frustrations I experience is that when I have tried to tell people how nuts they are over the last 40 years, and with political power, dangerous, they think I am overreacting. But let me assure you, when they talk about reclaiming the country for Christ, they really don't mean that in a persuasive sense. They mean that in the sense of, whatever is necessary to accomplish that goal.

15. Wow!
Those people - with a couple of sane exceptions - are really, really stupid. And twisted.

You gotta feel bad for their kids, being indoctrinated with all that ugliness and hate. But, I do love that it's being done in the name of god.

Wouldn't Jesus be proud of them?

35. I have to agree, if the shoe was on the other foot
and a poster on here told DU her child was forced to draw a pic of Bush, people would be up in arms. Leave the kids alone, let them draw whatever they want, but dont force them to draw pictures of current political figures. Teachers should use common sense.
