Ginsburg Has Pancreatic Cancer
A justice since 1993, she has had colon cancer earlier in her tenure.

Washington - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery Thursday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the court said.

The cancer was apparently in the early stages, according to the court announcement.

Ginsburg, 75, had the surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She will remain in the hospital for seven to 10 days, said her surgeon, Dr. Murray Brennan, according to a release issued by the court.

In 1999, Ginsburg had surgery for colon cancer and had chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The only woman on the court, she has been a justice since 1993.

1. Wishing her a speedy and full recovery. And hoping Obama appoints a young liberal in her place when
she's ready to step down. Cut the bipartisan conservative butt-kissing already, Barack!

2. Why couldn't it be Scalia?
I'd even settle for Kennedy.

4. Pancreatic cancer... As someone who lost a S.O. to that hideous disease
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 06:12 PM by Mike 03
I wish her the best. She was told she had four months, but she made it to almost a year. She lived every day, every moment to its fullest.

Fight, fight, fight.

It won't be easy, but fight.

6. I lost my Mother to PC
The docs gave her 4 months and she made it 11, mostly to spend more time with her grandkids. She was taking so much morphine and pain killers I don't know how she stood it but she was always a tough ol' bird.

Good Luck Justice Ginsberg

PS from what I heard on the radio they caught it very early and it seems to be a strain that's a few percentage points less lethal than normal.

10. I'm so sorry for your loss!!! It hurts to lose a loved one to cancer.
My GF was 40, if you can believe it.

But I'm so sorry you lost your mother. I'm going through this now with my father, and it is really horrible isn't it?

Maybe Justice Ginsberg has resectible Endocrine tumor pancreatic cancer rather than exocrine. That would be good news for her. Her prognosis would be much better.

12. Thank you...
It really is terrible. Mom had a stomach ache that wouldn't go away. She worked for the City Of Tulsa and had great insurance, regular checkups, etc . She went to the doctor about her tummy ache and was in the hospital that night. As with most by the time you feel it, it's too late.

My condolences about your SO. Let's hope the best for Justice Ginsberg.
