The greatest threat to America today is the Republican Party
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 09:40 PM by Cyrano
Yeah, I know, our foreign enemies haven't gone away. But virtually every empire in the history of the world has been destroyed from within, not by external forces.

Republican opposition to Obama's plans to get us out of the economic hole we're in, border on treason at best, and insanity at worst. The Republicans are interested in one thing and one thing only: regaining power. They couldn't care less about you, your problems, your family, your job (if you still have one), your economic or physical well being, or whether you live or die.

If Obama's stimulus plan, and his subsequent recovery plans succeed, Republicans can't win much of anything when the next election rolls around. But what if Obama fails? Well, the answer to that is that America will be a pathetic, floundering, broken, banana republic. So I guess this is what the Republicans are counting on to get themselves back into power. The problem is they won't "inherit the earth." All they'll reap is the barren landscape they've sewn.

The Republican Party is not alone in their quest to own the ruins of their scorched earth policies. What we've come to call the "Main Stream Media" is still owned by a handful of mega-corporations who will continue to highlight and endorse rightwing propaganda, while downplaying the counter arguments of Democrats. The MSM has been, are, and will continue to be the chief allies and enablers of the Republican Party. And to a very large degree, these corporations are the puppet masters of the Republican Party.

So it really comes down to one question: "How do we sane people win?" I don't have all the answers, but I do know that the first step is to realize we are at war. Our enemies are the Republican Party, the corporate owned media, and in too many instances, gutless Democratic politicians who haven't, don't, and never will "get it." And you can add to them Dems who represent conservative districts and call themselves Democrats because it's the only way they can get elected.

Sounds like a hopeless cause, doesn't it? But here's the thing. In all of human history, hopeless causes have often been the ones most worth fighting for. We're in a very dark place right now. However, we do have one edge: A man named Obama who just might turn out to be one of our greatest presidents.

But he can't fight this war alone. It's time we Dems/progressives/liberals put aside our differences and joined the fight. And it's a fight we can't afford to lose. It's one that's all about who we are and what kind of world we want to live in. And it's also about defeating the psychotic agenda of the wealthy and powerful whose only objective is to own, control and exploit everyone and everything in the world.

5. Yep. Cut taxes and spend...
Georgie had no clue how he'd pay for his war even as he continued to try to cut even more taxes for his "base." My new response to people who call me a "tax and spend liberal" is to say "well, that's more responsible than a "cut taxes and spend Republican."

6. No, they've been working on this disaster since Reagan was president
and 8 years of Clinton didn't do much to stop them from finishing the job, in fact, Clinton did what he could to help.

I hope the Obama administration takes a lesson from this and reinstates many of the regulations and protections that were taken away over the last 28 years.

4. I 100% agree.
These are OUR Nazi's, people. I'm dead serious. People like the 'pubs existed in 1920's Germany and they eventually ended up committing the most heinous crimes against humanity ever documented by a "civilized" society. If we let these fuckers fester and thrive, we do so at our peril.

9. At another time in our country's history, your remarks might have seemed radical
But after eight years of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld and all the other thugs that were part of their administration, no sane person could argue how far off the cliff of insanity they might have gone had their time in power not been up.

(And to add to that, I was among those who believed they wouldn't give up power when the time came. Maybe there really is a magic sky wizard after all.)

11. Mitch McConnell was saying he doesn't want to be a regional party
maybe this is what we should be saying all the time, the regional party who does not hold a candle to the democratic wave that took over the country in Nov. 2008. We need to bulldoze them and not let them isolate us or intimidate us.

19. they just don't give a crap about us and our agenda.
just remember all the excuses they gave when they lost the election but they will still play the ole same playbook, they will never learn. They are blocking Obama and his plan cause they know it will work, they think if more people lose their jobs Americans will be running back to the repigs. insane yes, they never learn, we are on to them now, well at least they are getting very transparent with their thinking and we can see what they are trying to do. They just suck plain and simple.

17. Sad, but true.
Those dedicated to greed, corruption, death and destruction really pay attention to their goals.

The rest of us just try to live our lives as best as possible. And this gives them the advantage. They have been at war with us for the past 30 years. We have tried to play by the rules and thrive, or at least survive.

It's time we understood the class warfare they have been waging against us. And it's past time we fought back.

If you kick them while they're down, they might get back up again later on and hurt you.

Best to just finish off the rethugs.

20. The Republican Party is just put there to distract your attention. You're missing the real threat.
Wall Street. I'm talking about the big corporations run by the truly wealthy individuals, individuals who own politicians and armies of lawyers and lobbyists to carry out their bidding. They got America by the balls. They own many politicians and judges.

The corporations, the wealthy, Wall Street, and the vast majority of the 24/7 media are all one and the same.

We Democrats have never been as organized and unified as they are. And there's a reason for that. A true Democracy is sloppy and disorganized because of its diversity.

The Republican Party, which could well be called the American Fascist Party, along with their corporate sponsors, lobbyists, propagandists, and media echo chamber are more than happy to march in goose step, ummm, I mean lockstep.

23. We have his back...
and we better because these bastards are out to get him. From Cheney's terrorist inciting comments on Politico.com
to the likes of Lindsey Graham, that gutless little sham.

The wisdom at the end of the day was the Presidents speech letting them know in no uncertain terms, he's not
playing their game.

We are going to have to be much more proactive in our support and act as a buffer. Emails, phone calls, what ever we have to do.

26. What I find incredible is that our Democratic politicians still don't get it
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:17 AM by Cyrano
They cringe anytime Mitch McConnell or John Boehner cut a fart.

Here's some news for our Dem leaders. "You won. You've got the power. Use it or lose it."

Our Dem leaders are locked in a circle jerk and don't seem to have the sense to totally ignore anything and everything the Republican Party wants.

Which still leaves us with the problem of Limbaugh, Hannity, and the entire right wing media echo chamber. The Dems have the power to immediately reinstate the fairness doctrine and to change the rules on media ownership.

It used to be that no one could own most of the newspapers, TV and radio stations in one area. Those rules are long gone which is why the Republicans have the megaphone. It gives them the ability to peddle any sack of crap they want to.

Pelosi and Reed have got to wake up and act. NOW. The clock is running and we the people don't have much time left. We're in a deep hole. And that hole is sitting on the edge of a bottomless abyss.

28. The greatest threat by far to our country today is the enemy within: the Republican Party
and anyone who supports, shills for, or otherwise aids and abets their far RW PNAC agenda for they are all enemies of the people. :P
