Scare Tactics: Cheney and Obama?!
Let me start with stating that I have already been accused of drinking the Obama kool-aid, so this is not coming from someone just looking for a fault to harp on...

Cheney:
His current insanity of stating how Obama's change from Bush policies will lead to another attack and that without the torture and the extraordinary rendition, it isn't possible to prevent another attack. Classic scare tactics. Stoke the fear of the people to have them then help justify and back up any policy as "necessary for survival".

Obama (from Washington Post as quoted by Olbermann tonight):
"Each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their home, ... Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. ..."

Why must Obama play this as a scare rather than pushing the positive of the stimulus? Does he feel that this is necessary in order to get people's attention?

In any case, how are these scare tactics justified, while others are not?

1. I think there is a large difference between "scare tactics" and fair warning.
If one is based on factual input and the other is not, then I don't see a problem.

2. Let's see...because the Cheney tripe is pure speculation and President Obama
is relating the facts that are plain to see just by looking around. Does that help?

3. Comparing Obama with Cheney is ludicrous at best and more likely trollish.

"Because each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their homes. And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse."

5 million jobs lost over the course of a multi-year recession. And many parts of the country are already at double-digit unemployment.

7. Let ME start by saying that I have been called every name in the book
HERE for my non-support of Obama prior to the election.:eyes:
And I see no problem with the way he framed it.
If you do not feel the emergent nature of the collapse of the economy, then you don't get out much.

Every news article (when speaking of the economy) says.."Nobody had any idea it would be this high...":eyes:

Think of it this way...Alaska has a population of 650,000. If the trend continues, do you get the dire warnings? This doesn't count the ones who don't receive benefits...so the number is much higher.
