4. I vote no. It's nobody's fucking business but Mr. Phelps'. |
|
I only hope for his sake that from now on he partakes in more private and intimate surroundings.

26. Somebody took the picture of Phelps - did either of them mind at the time? |
|
And, as a public figure, it ultimately becomes everybody's business. He ultimately is a role model too.
And it's no different than people having pictures of themselves being taken while committing (insert felony or Abu Ghraib here) and then putting it up on MySpace for all to see. D.U.M.B..
I don't know the veracity of the pro-marijuana users, but some have said they can stop or give it up any time they like yet whose actions and stories clearly show they are addicts -- and I once dated a person who used the stuff. After date #2 and the revelation of the drug use coming out, it was a charming invite and all that, but no freakin' way to that.
I did what I could at the time to help, the help was overtly rejected. Nothing else I could do except sever the acquaintance before anything started to get serious. Things already were serious and not in a good way.
Sorry for the tangent. My ex-acquaintance should not be relegated as a tangential story.
Perhaps it is a non-issue.
I wonder if the two are still friends?

6. Of course not. For one thing, it's just pot - a proven-beneficial herb. |
|
Also, it's not a performance-enhancing drug.
This episode just proves how ridiculously ignorant anti-pot hysteria is.

8. My views on this would be the same as they are on "mandatory" piss tests in the work place. |
|
I don't believe recreational marijuana use is any of your employer's business, provided you do it on your own time and it doesn't affect your job performance.
Phelps has 14 fucking gold medals. Obviously it hasn't affected his job performance. Why shouldn't he get high if he wants to?

Who could dream of anything better to do for 3 months. Sit around in underwear, surrounded by raw cash from endorsements, and light er up.

13. I prefer joints myself...but nothing wrong with smoking from a bong.. |
|
It's a matter of personal preference.
Seriously though....Suspended for smoking pot? That's just stupid.
This whole deal actually illustrates that the government line on pot is total bullshit. The guy is a star athlete, and a pot smoker.
Fuck the DEA! Fuck cops in general, actually!

I think smoking pot is fine. But they are trying to project an certain image, and Phelps smoking pot does not fit into that image. I'm not saying I particularly agree with it, but I think they're perfectly within their rights to do so.

21. I voted Yes although I believe Marijuana should be legal |
|
However, he knew the rules of the game he was operating under and choose to violate them regardless of consequences.
The biggest punishment isn't the suspension, it's the endorsement money he just lost. He probably took the worlds most expensive bong hit.
The suspension and a "sincere" apology will lessen the damage a bit, so it's in his best interest.

The kid is ALREADY set for life if he can figure out how to hang onto DAS GELD er schon verdient hat!! I'm certain he has a coterie devoted to that task. Right about now might be a good time to VET THEM for any Madoffs in their ranks. Gordon Summers and Lew Alcindor learned the hard way. He's been handed an opportunity to be a Gold Medalist in a social construct. We shall see what he makes of it. ;-)

idiotic drug war.
Legalize it, regulate it, tax it. Enough, already.
