It is a JOBS BILL.
It is not a "stimulus" bill to benefit an abstract. It is a way to get jobs in communities all across the country. To put people to work so we can eat, so we can have a place to live, so we can take care of our health and the health of our children.

Not to "increase wealth." Not to prop up the stock market. Not to manipulate some obscure ratio between two numbers understood only by accountants and bankers.

It is for jobs.

So we can end this ...

... and this ...

... and this ...

... and this.

12. It was Thom Hartmann. He should fill the new 10 pm time slot at MSNBC.
This man is a walking encyclopedia of historical facts, with a true progressive's heart and mind.

Hartmann: "Call it the JOBS BILL. Harry Reid, make 'em filibuster! Roll back the Reagan tax cuts."

16. :-) You know, part of the reason Repukes were so successful getting through their
destructive bills, is they named them deceptively so they sounded helpful to the middle class.

We Democrats don't even do that with bills that help the middle class, and we NEED to do that. We need to give bills names that show that they are for the middle class.

Will a stimulus bill make corporations less likely to shaft their workers? I don't think so.

22. The bill needs to be passed.
The GOP won't support it because of how they're framing it. They won't win when a framing that is not their is used.

The GOP always lose to reality.

Things like food stamps do help stimulate the economy as well as keep children from starving to death.

31. If someone has food stamps ...
... they go to the store, where an employee helps them with their purchase.

The store gets reimbursed for the food stamps by the government.

But, putting the money into the people's hands creates jobs.

32. Stores selling wares (even if it's wares that require govt reimbursement) keeps jobs.
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:22 PM by glitch
It all adds up and food stamps are an obvious twofer.

edit: actually more than a twofer, the multiplier is significant for "social" programs.

33. Agreed.
I just think it's important to keep the focus on who this is effecting.

The GOP framing ignores the involvement of people in this whole mess and by saying "jobs" we can remind people whose plan benefits them and whose plan hurts them.

Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:49 PM by glitch
And social programs get no respect from the people we're trying to market to, that's a given.
But all perception aside, let's give reality a nod now and then.
