Does anyone know anyone who talks like Haley Barbour?
I've lived in Tennessee, both Carolinas and Florida.

I never met anyone who sounds like him.

3. Turn on your TV Sunday morning
Haley sounds like a TV evangelical preacher.

Got the evangelical 'do, too

6. If I'm not mistaken....
Barbour is from Yazoo City, which is kind of western-central Mississippi. One of my co-workers is from there, and his accent is almost identical. It's kind of a southern drawl amplified.

13. LOL!!!
He always makes me wonder whether he's finished chewing completely. I thought it was whatever was left of his most recent meal. Who knows? Maybe it is a cud.

8. Why is it that all those down in the mouth sound like Barbour?
Didn't he get quite a settlement during Katrina? Wasn't there a hint of a scandal? Whatever happened to it?

10. Definitely
I don't speak that way, but it doesn't even make me perk up to hear him. Lots of "folks" speak that way in Georgia.

12. I'm from Mississippi and I've often heard accents similar to Barbour's.
I believe that he shares certain accent characteristics with those who are making certain underlying positions clear while trying to be subtle. I believe that the extremes of his accent are rooted in certain idealogical beliefs primarily race, wealth and power. He's letting the people know that he is white, rich and powerful. It reminds one of "Big Daddy" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".
