Top Dems Acknowledging They’re Being Outworked On TV, Vow To Fix
I’ve now learned that the Democratic leadership’s operatives are privately conceding that they are getting badly outworked by the GOP on the airwaves, and are vowing to take new measures to remedy the situation.

“Republicans are winning this thing right now because more of them are shouting louder, not because of what they are shouting,” one very senior leadership aide who is directly involved in booking Congressional guests on the chat shows conceded bluntly to me.

The numbers show that Dems are badly outgunned on the talk shows. This morning, Politico highlighted a Think Progress study showing that Republicans outnumbered Dems by substantial margins on the cable shows as the stim proposal was being debated.

After working the phones a bit, I’m now convinced that the Dem leadership sees this as a serious problem for them. “Moving forward, we need to be much more aggressive in deploying our folks,” the senior leadership aide said. “We need to saturate the airwaves like it is the week before an election.”

The aide said that the Dem leadership would push bookers to be more aggressive with network producers to book equal numbers of Dems and would also take aggressive steps to push more members of Congress to go on the air. “We’re gonna renew our push to get out there,” he said, adding that the topic was likely to be discussed at the Dem retreat starting today.

“There is also an onus on producers to remedy this issue,” the aide said. “But we are aware of the problem and are taking steps to fix it.”

2. 'Bout fucking time.
Step one. Get. Rid. Of. Harry. Reid.

On top of his spinelessness in negotiations, he's absolutely useless on TV - he has zero presence when he's in front of the camera.

this is why President Obama is going to be so visible next week. The Dems definitely need to get some voices out there to counteract the rethugs.

17. What I do NOT want are tounge-tied milquetoasts who don't know what to say.
Democrats need to be faxed DAILY TALKINGPOINTS. And need to be schooled on how to repeat them like parrots.

4. They should have planned for this all along. Months ago
realistically. Did they think that the pukes were going to play nice all of a sudden. 95% of DU saw this shit coming a mile away. (Probably more like 99.5% of DU)

5. I have a suggestion on "getting more aggressive with network producers"
While they're talking to them, make side comments to someone (or an imaginary person) about "that memo on the Fairness Doctrine."

7. LEGISLATE the problem away.
That's the only way to fix it.

The media is owned by Republican friendly corporations. They don't want the Dems on.

8. As many of us have noted- without media re-regulation, this isn't going to change
and the Dems will watch haplessly as policy after policy is mischaracterized- and repeatedly lied about to the point where it's either watered down to ineffectiveness- or simply defeated outright, with the cover and blessing of the consolidated corporate media.

Without reforms like the fairness doctrine- Obama likely ends up a one term president- and the Dems once again lose control of Congress.

11. Obama needs to send these Dems to Camp Obama to learn how to do their job.
If they can get a tenth of his PR mojo, they'll be way better off than they started.

13. talk radio monopoly does the groundwork for the GOP
the talk radio monopoly enables this crap- the flat earthers, the GOP operatives, the lazy celeb talking heads

they know by the time they get on the tube at the end of the news day the GOP talking points and one liners are no longer absurd or false because they've been repeated all over the country from 1000 stations all day long. ownership knows who to put on and who to keep off if they want to protect their tax breaks but they can't all go fox on the american public without exposing themselves. they need that talk radio monopoly of the public airwaves to prechew the message for them to make it easier to swallow.

why aren't progressive citizens groups boycotting and picketing the local talk radio stations that fill the airwaves with lies about our causes and candidates? the national big mouths like limbaugh and hannity are bad enough but even one local blowhard reading GOP and chamber of commerce talking points can undo the work of thousands of volunteers.

18. And there it is- the repetition. Democrats just don't need to get on tv. They all need to be on the
same page repeating the same talking points

16. And putting unprepared, milquetoast Democrats= almost as damaging. You have to give talkingpoints
so any Democrat knows how to hit the right points.

They also have to be coached to turn any and all questions BACK to their talkingpoints.
