I'm glad the Jobs bill is passing, etc, but holy smokes, the Honolulu projects are weak.

1. Governor Lingle? Just a thought....
I mean she'd not want to improve the education system... (and I know it NEEDS IT)

3. For real.
We need to turn the whole system upside down and shake it. The old obachan teachers excepted, they rock.

I couldn't believe Tootsie actually got elected. I wish she wasn't all talk, about the renewable energy priorities at least.

Did you see the pic of her speaking for McCain in the middle of the election? She spent a ton of time out of state for him when things were getting pretty hairy (no pun) over here- to a crowd of...dozens.

It cost her. IMG]

7. Right.
I went to public elementary school here and it was great.

That was a while ago...I interview high school graduates every week that are functional illiterates. I am not sure what the solutions are, but the cost of our current failures are incalculable.

What do you think about our spending priorities on this bill?

10. I did demos of a game I used to work for in a public school
and an 8th grader that could not do 20-8 in his head scared the living dailights out of me

If this was only one kid, ok... every school has them... he wasn't alone

That's when I knew how deep the problems were

As to solutions... we need to invest in teachers, pay them better

We need to demand performance

And this will not be popular, federalize the system, with a single national curriculim

The PTAs have failed nation wide, not just Hawaii

Yes, an european style system and it will take a generation to reap the rewards
