My internet explorer keeps locking up/not responding but it only seems to happen when I am on D.U. and not on other sites. Is it just me or are is anyone else having the problem?

3. Stop using internet explorer
The other browsers are better, and free for download. You can be using Firefox or Opera inside of two minutes.

6. When you use Firefox where does your old (IE) browser go?
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 09:25 AM by TheCowsCameHome
I'm not too saavy with this stuff, and reluctant to tinkering with something I'm not familiar with.

9. It stays...
You can still use IE, but once you start using Firefox, you won't want to.;)

10. It doesn't go anywhere
It just stays there, but you don't use it -- like that jacket in the back of the closet you swore you would get back into some day -- 10 years ago.

You can import your bookmarks etc into Firefox.

13. So it just piggybacks, with the new feature added to your display?
Thanks for that.

14. No, it's a separate program.
Firefox is one program, and IE is another. You don't have to do anything to IE in order to install or use Firefox.

28. I deleted it.
Actually, I didn't. My son did. When I tried, I deleted some other important windows stuff, and had to reload the software.

That was 5 years ago. I don't remember what he did. I just know that IE is gone, and not missed. ;)

4. I had it a month ago.
Something hijacked my web browser, and it began with gradual lock-ups on DU.

I had a guy come out and clean out the spyware that got imbedded.

12. I reformatted this laptop on tuesday.
That doesn't mean spyware didn't get in though. I have a gateway lapptop & I really hated all the crap they preloaded on it.

15. Depending on your resources, I recommend downloading Windows 7 Beta...
It's free and I had NO problems at all installing it on my tablet PC. It found EVERY driver the first time (including the pen tablet driver) and is very stable (so far;)). However, If you have less than 1GB of ram and less than a 1.5GHz processor, I wouldn't.

5. Are you running the new IE?
If so, it's still a bit buggy.

11. Run Windows Update and see if there's a fix for it.
You might've gotten a bad build of it.

16. You have no idea as to how happy this info makes me
I've been playing around with my hacked version of xp all this last week because of this problem and was sure that it was something I have wrong but by reading that you're having the same problems now I know that its a pretty good chance its not a problem of my doing. :woohoo: Now to go kick bill gate's ass right square up between his shoulders as far as I can, no not really, just blowing off steam.

19. For the record-Not blaming D.U. for this- just asking if others have the problem.
Most likely it is something with I.E., I might try some other browser, anyone try "chrome" yet?

21. I don't use IE at home except for when I need to access
our work intranet site. That is the only time I use IE. At work I only have IE and have never had problems with it locking up on DU but I have had problems with IE locking up on Huffington Post and several other sites. We have version 6 at work I believe. I have the pre-beta of version 8 on my home desktop computer which seems to act a lot better but I still pretty much exclusively use Firefox at home.

23. The pages won't load.
Then a few minutes later, it will load, but really slow...in IE.

In Firefox, my regular browser, I'm not having any problems at all.
