Justice Ginsburg Plans to Return to Court in Weeks

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg plans to be back at work for the court's next public session, less than three weeks after surgery for pancreatic cancer.

Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said Friday that Justice Ginsburg intends to be in court when the justices hear arguments on Feb. 23. Justice Ginsburg underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer Thursday, after a routine checkup disclosed an early-stage tumor, the court said.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg this week underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer, her second brush with the disease after undergoing treatment for colon cancer in 1999, Fox News reports.

Justice Ginsburg, the only woman on the court, was treated for colon cancer a decade ago. After a career as a law professor, a legal advocate for women's rights and a federal appellate judge, she was elevated to the high court by President Bill Clinton in 1993, becoming a reliable member of the court's liberal wing.

1. I am glad to hear that
The news media had said that she had early stage pancreatic cancer at the time of the surgery. I am pleased that this was indeed true. I hope she has a nice restful few weeks before returning to the Supreme Court. As a liberal who feels very strongly about women's rights, I really appreciate her service on the court.
