Note to CNN.....
...we don't give a fuck about a guy who hits a ball with a stick and what kind of performance enhancing drugs he used.

Unbelievably, here's the link to the top story today: http://www.cnn.com

And no, I didn't click on the link to the story.

Sources tell SI Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003

In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

1. Notice, they dig up a stellar athelete in swimming for a drug scandal.
For dope.. most don't care.. Now, they go for the baseball player and steroids. Hello, people just don't give 2 shits about any atheletes when they are losing their jobs, homes, and entire communities to this depression... fuck heads.

8. Yes, men taking drug to hit a ball with a stick farther are mindless.
And the people who find this fascinating and news-worthy are just as mindless. Especially during the times we're living in right now.

10. When did they start forcing you to watch baseball?
Should I be afraid that I'll be the next one to be forced to watch it?

I don't know about you, but I tend to simply ignore news stories that don't interest me. I figure some people might be interested in them, though, and they're welcome to their interest, even if I don't share it.

Oddly enough, I'm very interested in news about fishing, and am glad that it's covered somewhat in my local media.

Different strokes...

No one's forcing me to watch it, obviously.
But when I turn on CNN in hopes of seeing where the stimulus bill stands, I don't expect to see a crap non-story about a baseball player and drugs. I was just as angered with the media's obsession with Michael Phelps the past week, too.

18. If you wait a bit, CNN will cover the story you're interested in.
It's the weekend, anyhow. Time for the other stories, since not much news happens on the weekend.

Since you have a computer, it's pretty easy to find out the news about whatever subject interests you. You can come to DU, and find links to pretty much any story. You could also go to the NYT web site and read all about it. You could even go to the CNN web site and find out anything you want to know.

CNN doesn't cover just one story 24/7, you see. That would be really boring. Saturday mornings, they often cover sports news quite a bit. It seems that some of their viewers are interested in such news. That you, individually, are not seems not to be their main concern.

23. And I do get most of my news on any subject from the internet
And I do understand that Saturdays are a slow news day.

My underlying point is why a baseball player using steroids is news at all. Or Christian Bale going on a tirade. Or the octuplets woman. Etc..

27. Well, if you're not interested in those stories,
then they must not be news "at all." Do I have that right?

I think you should be hired at once as the news director of CNN, then. Since you are obviously the best arbiter of what is and is not news, you'd be an ideal choice.

But, then again, perhaps not. Perhaps steroid use by athletes affects all levels of athletics, making it news of value to everyone involved in the business of athletics. I have no idea who Christian Bale might be, so I can't comment on that. Apparently he has enough notariety to be of interest to some percentage of CNN's Saturday viewership. The woman with the octuplets has relevance to many people, since it represents an extreme case of some pretty odd behavior, and since reproductive issues affect everything from abortion to medical ethics. Seems like a story of interest to many.

But not, apparently, to you. One wonders about who really cares whether you're interested in these stories or not. Perhaps you should send a nice rant letter to CNN.

21. CNN is the only place you can get Stimulus news?...
maybe that's your problem. Not that CNN isn't showing what you want it to show, but that you don't know where to get real news from.

Of course I'm interested in other things but the economy. Do I tune into CNN or MSNBC for the latest music or sports news? Of course not. Anyone who does is delusional.

Didn't you post a baseball story from CNN.com? So I went to CNN.com to see the story and I must be delusional reading your post also, because obviously there is not a story on baseball on CNN because that would be delusional.

29. Well someone else did
That's not really the point. People going to CNN.com to read a story on baseball are not delusional, because there really is a story about baseball on CNN.com right now. Wouldn't the people who went to CNN.com not expecting a baseball story be the ones that are delusional?

7. Nothing wrong with baseball, and lots of people do
care about the sport. You, apparently, do not. Neither do I. But, it's a big country, and people are free to care about whatever it is they care about.

I notice that lots of other stories are on CNN, too...not just baseball. Did you notice those?

Oh...welcome to DU. I'm a new DU member, too.

17. If CNN had responsible leadership, it wouldn't be reporting on this.
I'm aware many people care about this story, believe me. But I sincerely doubt baseball fans tune into CNN for their sports news. All I'm saying is that CNN, along with other news outlets, should stick with what's important. And it's not just with sports. When I see Fox or MSNBC reporting on Paris Hilton, et al it's just as infuriating. These stories are not important, especially right now. They only serve to distract the public from what IS important, IE - the economy.

20. As I said, you should buy CNN...or start your own
cable news network. That way, you could cover economic and political news nonstop.

You could also find another news program on your Teevee, I'd think. Since you're watching CNN, you must have cable or satellite service. There are many fine news channels you can view.

What seems a real waste of time, though, is coming here and whining about what some television station isn't covering. Use your remote.

30. Yes. Strawmans. As in, strawman arguments.
I stated that baseball, and its rabid fans, are mindless. You disagreed, and instead of giving reasons why both are not mindless, you instead told me that:

1. No one is forcing me to watch it.
2. I don't own CNN.

Both are informal fallacies.

Good day, sir.

31. The plural of strawman is strawmen, not strawmans.
You may wish to note that immediately below this thread is one, started by another DU member a couple of minutes prior to this CNN story, discussing the use of steroids. Perhaps you should visit that thread and tell those folks they are mindless. I'm sure they'd appreciate hearing your assessment of their mental abilities.

32. You're right. I made a grammatical error.
However, bringing the error up for the sake of argument right now is, too, a strawman.

Tee hee!

Also, I've already posted in that thread, but thanks for the heads up!

Shouldn't you be calling CNN right freakin' now? Also, have you finish calling all the members of congress about the stimulus bill? It seems the economy is not really that important to you, right? You rather waste your time bitching and moaning on the internet.

That doesn't count all the other stories in the political and business sections and many more on CNN. I see one Baseball story on the front page of CNN.com.

14. Yeah, really....
...the only way this could possibly be relevant to me is if instead of punishing the guy the Feds punished the owners who were complicit in the use of the drugs by their employees.

"Ok, Steinbrenner, fork over $500,000,000 for your aiding and abetting."

And yes I do know that the guy was with Texas when he juiced. (Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could tie a punishment to Two Shoes)?
