I really hope the weatherization part of this bill didn't get killed.
I have six single pane windows in my home and can not afford to get them replaced with thermo-panes. I use approximately one thousand two hundred gallons of heating fuel a year on a normal year but this winter is somewhat colder than average so I'm burning more, and last time I fueled up diesel was $3.79 a gallon. Would like very much to cut that bill in half. If through the US Weatherization program I could get windows replaced and insulation under my floor I think that could happen. If I could cut my usage in half and a hundred million others in America could as well, it would certainly put a dent in Saudi Arabia's impact upon us. IMO it is a triple win situation. Less Carbon output, less expense out of my pocket, less foreign oil purchased, oh and people would be hired to install these things so immediate stimuli would be accomplished as well, not to even mention those products are all made in the USA. It is so beneficial that I am afraid Republicans will make it an important part of the bill to try and defeat..

1. Suggestion.
Contact your local utility provider. A lot of them have programs to help with the cost of windows, insulation etc. They do it to prolong the need to build more power plants.

3. Our friends in Maine shrink-wrapped their windows
(for lack of a better term) starting a couple of years ago and they say it has made a huge difference in both their comfort level and their fuel use.

Is that something you could do?

4. A really simple. cheap and easy thing to do is but
bubble-wrap on your windows. It works great as insulation and lets light in, although you can't see out the way you would with a clear pane.
