1. Rose-breasted grosbeaks...
As soon as you see them, you know that Spring has sprung to stay...

2. I know that Spring is here to stay when the Coast Guard picks up the guys off the
Niagara River near Buffalo!

3. Happens every year when the wind comes up and you are
so busy catching fish that you do not notice. I was surprised to see it happen in February when the ice is still so thick.

4. AHA! But is the ice thick? If it broke off, that suggests the Lake is warm/
warming up which suggests an early Spring.

It also suggests a whopper of a lake effect snow storm for us sometime in the next 4 weeks!

5. It does..
What I was surprised to see was the amount of lake effect the last few weeks off Eire regardless that it has frozen over.

6. Was that technically lake effect of just the cold air from Canada meeting the
warm and wet front coming up from the Gulf? We had snow fall last week-end, but the wind was coming from the south instead of from Lake Ontario.

8. Boy, didn't see that coming. Seriously, ice fishermen get stranded on the lakes and the Niagara
River every year, but this is the first time I've head of a death.
