"He works for US!"
Went to a Town Hall meeting today put together by a far right nutjob who serves in our state legislature. He was talking about the cuts to the education budget (and of course trying to justify them).

Standing room only. It was awesome.

The crowd was clearly not on his side. After he gave his little speech where he managed to mention every Democrat who was opposing the cuts (he even said 'Democrat' instead of 'Democratic') first comment was from a man who asked him to quit pointing his finger at "Democrat" reps. Huge applause. :)

Lots more negative comments and then someone asked him about the coal plant. There is a movement by the corporate Republicans to build a coal plant in western Kansas and sell the power to Colorado because Colorado won't let the coal plant build there. This guy voted for the plant last year, it passed and Governor Sebelius vetoed it. So the state GOP brought it up again this year.

Again, the crowd was clearly NOT supportive of the coal plant. Then the idiot suggested we tear down the coal plant in our county and see what it's like to live without that energy. Only thing is, there is NO coal plant in this largely suburban non-industrial county.

He was even stupid enough to say "Well not everyone believes in global warming."

So after about 45 minutes of mainly negative comments and questions from the crowd, some lady stood up and asked us all to be more polite and said "He doesn't HAVE TO be here!"

The entire room literally shouted in unison:

HE WORKS FOR US!!

It was freakin awesome. And this is a very red county in a very red state.

What a great experience!! :woohoo:

2. Yes
And I stood up this morning and told that roomful of folks to call our senators and ask them to vote yes for the Stimulus Bill cause that money will alleviate a lot of the budget cuts.

3. Wow! Great report! Thanks!
Very encouraging!!!

THIS is what we have to do. CROWD THESE BASTARDS OUT. Overwhelm them and intimidate them. This guy will leave there at least a little bit shaken up - that there are all these "enemy troops" surrounding him and - geez, they believe differently from him and, uh-oh, there were quite a lot of them who showed up - YIKES - whothehell are these people? Where did they come from? Are they all from MY district? I hope they don't turn out like that at the polls... um... trouble here... Danger Will Robinson.

These Troglodyte schmucks NEED VERY BADLY to get the sense of the walls closing in on them.

They NEED VERY BADLY to start feeling as though they're outnumbered, surrounded, threatened, endangered. Some of 'em will hide behind limbaugh and their local GOP organizers, but that only lasts as long as they think they can overwhelm YOU. If they think your power is soft, or your commitment is half-assed and you won't go the distance and you won't care that much and you'll give up after a few days of activism and you'll go away, then they'll hang on for dear life, hoping for the big turnaround that brings their side back to power with all these magic new crowds of wrong-wingers who'll support them and keep voting for them.

WHAT THEY NEED TO SEE is how they're CONTINUALLY outnumbered and outshouted and overwhelmed by LEGIONS of US. They've spent a few decades intimidating our side. WE NEED TO RETURN THE FAVOR.

This is JUST EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

MORE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

11. K & R Numero Diez !!
BTW, which Troglo-publican was this?

And, upon reflection, the lady who said "He doesn't HAVE TO be here!" has a point. If the constitutents of this moran finally realize that his failure to recognize global warming is because his calendar only goes back to Bishop Ussher's date of 4004 BC, they could vote the idiot out (if the dinosaurs don't eat all of the ballots!)

19. I love it when common sense controls the room & refuses to let the idiot score.
And, like you said, in a very red county in a very red state.

You can pull a dog's tail so many times before it finally attacks back:

25. What I've noticed is....
that much of the more affluent crowd has soured on the GOP. My father and many of his partners and golf buddies are sick of the constant attacks on science, the refusal to fund the universities, and the influence of the religious right. I think Kansas has a lot more moderates than it is credited with. The Northeast part of the state is getting pinker by the day, especially as parents want their children to be able to attend state colleges that are as good as the ones in Johnson county. When the Universities have over $500 million in deferred maintenance, that is not a good thing. Plus, Douglas county always has the Democrats' backs.

28. You'll appreciate this
The guy kept referring to the rural communities in western Kansas as "middle class". My dad grew up in western Kansas. I have spent a lot of time out there. And those people are far from middle class. My dad used to say that money really does grow in the wheat fields out west, in the form of oil wells.

32. well this past year, money was the crops themselves
Kansas had the best harvest on record, and since energy prices have crashed, harvesting costs will be cheaper this season (add in the fact that financing on farm equipment is very good right now).
