My cubs did their food drive today- So far we've collected almost 4300 items |
|
We had hoped for more, our goal was 9000- but I guess in this economy we should be happy with how well we did.
The food pantry is thrilled though.
Since I coordinated the event, I really wanted to do better than last year, but many of the parents that went with the boys said that lots of people said they didn't have any food this time to donate.

3. PS- I just had to brag, I'm really hoping all our boys grow up |
|
to be good people. Aware of what's going on around them.
Last year, my youngest was watching the election primary discussions and asked me what the word "underpriveledged" meant.
I thought a while and then I related it to the food drive from last year and told him that when people have lost jobs or have really high medical expenses, they can go to the food bank for food.
He got real quiet, then got a big smile on his face and he said "That's awesome!" I think at that time, he really got it. I still get choked up thinking about that.

6. What a good parent you are |
|
Teaching children about poor people is very important. The food drive is a great way to do that. You did a great job getting all of that food donated.

4. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We are all in this together... |
|
Or as the good Rev. Martin Luther King would say, "we were all bound together in an inescapable web of mutuality..."

7. I help my husband with the den and I do district activities like running our daycamp for 300 boys |
|
They give us a budget for the boys of $15/boy to pay for all expenses for an entire week.
Needless to say, we exist on donations to get the job done. Last week, I was so excited- I got about $2000 worth of leather and other materials that will help a lot.
I was so excited to have donations, I still have 4 months to collect free stuff for camp.

11. Congratulations and you are to be commended for your efforts |
|
setting an excellent example for your kids, helping others, and providing a chance for those with some to give to those with not enough.
It must have been an inspiring and exciting day!
