Did you see the Patco strike,
and the power wielded by the Reich,
When Ronnie ran the show?

Did you believe the middle-class
would gladly take it up the ass
and can you tell me where'd retirement go?

Well I saw the country lovin' him
while the workers future turned real grim.
The horseshit got quite deep,
The poor were used like sheep.
And while right wing creeps threw out the rules
most Democrats laid down like fools,
Do you recall that theft by ghouls
the day the unions died?

(Apologies to Don McClean)

That's the day they laid out the plan. "Blood sucking" unions would be crushed. 11,000 workers fired. Who knew it was just the opening salvo? Republicans went from crushing unions, to deregulating industries, to demonizing the poor AND those they had crushed as "welfare queens" and leeches on productive society.

The mentally ill they threw into the street and then pointed to the "deteriorating social structure" that only they could fix. "1000 Points of Light" and "Dawn in America" whether real or posited justified the government abandoning 200 years of social policies meant to define what the government owed the lowest of society. As an ACTUAL policy, they never stated "greed is good" but by a thousand actions they supported it.
In 27 years, by lies, and innuendo, and by deeds, they drove this country into the wreckage our President received on January 20th.

The hidden agenda was that they knew, the day the controllers were humbled, that at each step as viable Americans were cut off from the herd and marked for slaughter, they could continue only as long as they could point out another "enemy" from the lower classes "stealing" an unfair share of the pie. Now the last lower classes-the PHDs, and engineers, and the working affluent begin to feel the lash of jobs and homes and relevance destroyed NOT because they are not viable, but just because viability is cheaper when outsourced.

Someone Fucked this country for 3 decades for profit and because they could. How they did it is an education. Why they have a voice still in congress is baffling. They are the Republicans and they have not "made mistakes"- They implemented a plan.

2. Great post.
It's important to remember while Chimpy was obviously the worst of it, the policies that led us to this point began with his daddy and uncle Ronnie in 1980. And contrary to the delusions some try to sell themselves, we didn't get a break from this bullshit in the 90's either. Only a DLC'er who could manage it better than the Bush Crime Family did.

4. No one recognized that the sole core Democratic impulse he had...
...was hooted off the stage (universal healthcare). Other than that he WAS fiscally conservative which they espouse but never practice. Once healthcare was murdered by sarcasm the rest of the actual "accomplishments" were stuff Reagan was afraid to attempt that early in the coup (NAFTA/Welfare "reform).
