Republicans conceded that their position is a failure, and Democrats missed it.
The Republican Party has been parroting for a month now, that FDR's New Deal was a failure, and World War II brought us out of the Great Depression.

Well, instead of limited Government spending on jobs and infrastructure, which Republicans fought FDR all the way on....
The United States, upon entry into WW II, established the biggest jobs program in history, by employing millions in the military and employing millions more, both directly and indirectly, in factories and infrastructure projects all over the country. Not only that, the United States Government made the wealthiest in America pay very high tax rates and they limited how much profit corporations could make. World War II was the expanded Democratic Plan in action, which rebuilt infrastructure, provided millions of jobs, limited corporate profits, and taxed the wealthy at high rates.

Hello? Have any Democratic politicians been paying attention that Republicans admitted that expanded Democratic policies are the ONLY way to go, when they claim WW II ended the Great Depression?

1. Good point.
And one that the Democrats should explain to the Republicans.

2. Great reasoning. This should be sent to all the talking heads. See if anyone
has the guts to confront the next republican whose says that.

3. you can make the point even better!
Add to the end:
"And this is what we SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING for the last 8 years, seeing as how we are involved in TWO wars! Is it any wonder we're going broke?!? "

Checkmate!

4. Correct it was the jobs not the war. If the war had never happened but
other jobs had been created in those numbers it would have had the same result and a lot fewer people would have died.

6. Right, it was all the jobs and employment in the military that ended the Depression.
The economy stays stalled, if the country only spends money on a war, without the massive amount of spending on compensation to troops and jobs for it's civilians. Because the majority of the people see no compensation from it.

The United States would have still been in a Depression if WW II was fought like Bush's 'War On Terror,' because jobs were not created to employ people in it, corporations were given a blank check to rip off the government, and the wealthiest in the country were given tax breaks, from already lower rates.

The spending on jobs (personnel in the military, infrastructure jobs, and factory jobs) is what set up the biggest boom in American History, not the war. When are the Democrats going to thank Republicans for admitting this fact?

10. Hear Here!!!!
I have been going round and round with republicans on this. they always retort "It was the war!" omitting the war was merely the catalyst. Truth is the War brought fourth diffrent policies that were put forth for reasons of national security or economic stability. Yet these policies working in conjunction ended the depression.

1) everyone in one way or another had a government job.
2) prices were controlled. even after the war prices were fixed for a year or two afterwards while retooling went on to manufacture fridges, washing machines, houses etc.

I try to explain that it is just the jobs part that needs to happen. they then ask if not war then what? I say "shovelready infrastructure" they then say war?

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! it always goes back to needing war with these ignorant fucks.

7. Absolutely... but
to make the argument, you have to finesse a little bit. Give WWII credit for additional jobs creation that augmented FDR's economic success, but don't buy into the GOP claptrap and give it all the credit because that would undercut the argument that FDR was on the right track--which is what the GOP has been trying to do for 70 years.

8. The point I made was that it was the jobs from WW II, not WW II itself.
If as much money was spent on employing the American people, instead of WW II, it would have done the same thing. If FDR could have expanded his programs even more, instead of scaling back like the Republicans wanted, the recovery would have been sooner.

The point is that a massive jobs program (WW II: military personnel, infrastructure jobs, & factory jobs) pulled this country into prosperity.
