11. REading through it and pic captions

apparently Bush/Cheney and all of the Pentagon brass didn't think the surge would work. Patreus not only enlisted an anthropologist and a Brit pacifist/cultural advisor he instituted what he did when he was heading the 101st (as Ricks briefly mentioned in "Fiasco") he paid off everyone. Even during the surge the admiral (name?) and others tried to change the policy, undermine it, and then finally accepted it.

Basically for all the bluster about THE SURGE none of them believed it until they realized it was all they had left and used it for the utmost political leverage...and that is about it.
