No board seat for Oak Park homeless man, opponents say

(IL) Attorneys for a homeless man running for a seat on the Oak Park Village Board said Friday that objections to their client's candidacy were incomplete and invalid.

Daniel Fore filed nominating petitions to have his name placed on the ballot for village trustee in the April 7 election. The petitions indicate he is homeless.

Two Oak Park residents, Randy Gillett and Richard Newman, filed objections, claiming a person without a fixed address cannot run for office or register to vote. A hearing of the Oak Park Electoral Board to rule on the objections will continue at 8 a.m. Thursday in Oak Park Village Hall.

Joseph Jacobi and Larry Griffin, attorneys for the firm Kirkland and Ellis who are representing Fore, said a homeless person can legally register to vote and can circulate nominating petitions.

Fore is registered to vote using the address of relatives living in Oak Park, according to Cook County Clerk's records.

2. Having a roof over your head--property, money--is now a requirement for VOTING?
What assholes! But don't think that, because this is outrageous, we won't be hearing it on the floor of the House! Wouldn't the Pukes LOVE to exclude all the people they have impoverished from voting!

5. The "ownership class" wants to keep lots of people from voting. The homeless ...

... and people in prison (for ANY reason) and people who were FORMERLY in prison (for ANY reason) and full-time students and people whose (multiple, underpaid) jobs won't allow them time off and anyone who's poor.

After all, what do THEY know about what government does, huh? (They know the failures ... up close and personal.)

On top of that, the "ownership class" loves illegal alien workers and guest workers and H-1B visa workers ... who cannot vote to support better working conditions (even if they would).

The government enforcement of PRIVILEGE (and ownership entitlements) is the objective -- as always. The best government their money can buy.

3. So our right to vote is dependent upon having a house?
After all, we wouldn't want these uppity homeless people to try and help themselves out, that would be outrageous!

4. Homeless people can vote
I have signed homeless people up to vote in DC. They can use the address of any of the agencies they go to in order to fufill the residency requirement.

6. can't do that in NC
We have had many challanges upheld for homeless using an agency as an address but there is a place on our voter registration forms where they can identify the closest intersection to where they sleep most nights.
