1. Not an appropriate action IMHO
If you kill or injure the driver of a motor vehicle does not that raise the chance of injury to bystanders?

4. Yeah whatever... go Texas
I never gave my opinion of the LAW, I gave MY opinion of the irrationality of the decision making process's possible outcomes.

5. Texas? Chill, we can disagree.
I think shooting at a vehicle that was ramming yours is reasonable, that's all.

wanna hear a gun story?

When I was 14 I stuck a gun in a violence-prone relative's face - his response (frozen in his tracks): WHERE DID YOU GET THAT? My response: NOT YOUR BIGGEST CONCERN RIGHT NOW, IS IT? Yeah, it modified his behavior for a while.

But my dad, who kept a gun for protection, shot himself with it - and lived for six days.

The gun issue should not be extreme-PRO OR extreme-ANTI but something MORE FUCKING REASONABLE.

10. IF this guy shot directly at the truck aimed at his car then it is justified
This news piece has almost no info, but that looks like a the bullet entered from the front and it also looks like this guy lives in a low population density area.

I still have the bad taste of Joe Horn in my mouth and you can understand why I would fear that a fleeing vehicle being shot at arguably is a higher threat to public safety.

12. Yes, Horn's case was an entirely different matter.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 02:24 AM by guruoo
The 911 call proved without a shadow of doubt that Horn was not in imminent danger
when he made the decision to kill.
But in the OP's example, however, with my family in the car, I wouldn't have waited to
find out if they were armed or not. I would have quickly checked my background, and then
taken them out immediately, driver first.

3. Using the SUV to ram the homeowner's family
is assault with a deadly weapon. If they just drove off w/out ramming anyone then there would have been no reason to fear for their lives. But if indeed the burglars did use the SUV to ram the homeowner's car first then legally he probably has every right to use a gun.

9. sounds like he provoked them by trying to block their vehicle
leading to the ramming. He could have just let them drive off and called the police. But obviously his "things" were more important. Now someone (innocent until proven guilty) fights for his life in the hospital.
