OMFG--GLAMORIZING unemployment??????
I KNOW Yahoo is a RW tool, but NOW I have fucking heard EVERYTHING!

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Jay Capelle would give anything to get back his factory job of 32 years. At the same time, he's grateful to have extra time on his hands these days to care for his ailing wife, stay in shape and work on a long-planned baseball documentary.

The unemployed are stressed out about unpaid bills, dashed retirement plans and the loss of workplace camaraderie. But many say life minus work also has its bittersweet upsides, including more time with family and friends, learning new skills, focusing on their health and pursuing hobbies.

There is a wide range of opinions, of course, about just how sweet, or bitter, the experience has been.

An idled auto worker in Wisconsin cherishes extra time with his kids, and his guitar. A former communications worker in Virginia finds time for hiking as a distraction from the job search. But two jobless friends in North Carolina who've played plenty of golf together say enough is enough: they're ready again for the joy of earning a paycheck.

3. The extra time with the family is great.
Getting less than half of what I normally make sucks major donkey balls. I'd love to not have to work, who wouldn't? But you can't have any real fun when nearly all of the UE money has to go to bills and survival. Unemployment bites.

6. Wow, unemployment sounds wonderful!
It sounds so great that perhaps this Ryan J. Foley, AP writer should quit his job and try it out for himself? Why not, if it's so wonderful?

What an asshat.

7. What a bullshit premis this story has
Yes it's nice to have a little time free to de-stress.
that lasts at MOST a month.
Until you realize that the pittance you're getting for unemployment covers NOTHING@! Then your stress quadruples.
The article is on a bullshit RW premise, as the OP pointed out, that the unemployed are a bunch of slackers.
Maybe the point of the OP should be "People doing their best to stay SANE, while jobs EVAPORATE because of RW policies!"

oh well that's just me.

8. Honestly, What Did You Expect?
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 04:13 AM by TheWatcher
No matter what the election result was, this is still the same Corporate Controlled, bought and paid for Media that Goebbels himself would have killed for, and I dare say would have unquestioningly sacrificed his first born to get.

The same Media that sold you "The War On Terror."

The same Media that told you the economy was fine, strong, and resilient right up until the Collapse.

Please don't tell me you are surprised by stories like this.

They may be infuriating, but remember, they are NOT FOR YOU.

They are for the mindless sheep that still keep buying into the lies, and doing as they are told, and thinking what they are told to think, and think when you get laid off the first thing you should do is invest in a Blackberry, to get re-hired as quickly as possible.

And as much as I hate to break it to you, they still outnumber those of us who are awake.

By A LOT.

Still, there are enough of us left where I think this little twit of a half-wit writer might want to make it a point of keeping his likeness from being widely known or distributed.

One of the "overjoyed unemployed" just might want to have a few words with him about how happy they REALLY are.

Somehow I don't think such a meeting would be to his advantage.

9. It's OK. He could walk in the door today and be pink-slipped.
Then he could write a nice first-person story and try to sell it freelance...on how much fun it is to be unemployed.
