Which is the worst threat to our society? Marijuana, tobacco or liquor? |
|
Which of these three would you least want your kid to mess around with, or get addicted to?
This weird trend of banning cigarettes from all public places seems odd for a society that tolerates liquor stores, and bars, and throws you in jail for smoking a joint.

How much tobacco per day is one "directed" to smoke? There is to recommended daily allowance here.

It's possible to drink enough water, "as directed", to kill yourself much more quickly. Without giving a quantity, the statement is meaningless.

As it was under prohibition. Todays violent gangs are fueled by the constant flow of cash from the illegal drug trade. So it would seem that the number of Drive by Shootings, and much additional violence is of your list most attributabe to marijuana.

Used in moderation, they are not particularly threatening to individuals either. That said, I would not want to be addicted to any of them, nor would I want my children addicted. The key is always moderation.

|
People who make getting drunk/stoned a cornerstone of their life to the point where they cannot control things and feel the need to turn to jesus and ruin things for everyone else who can handle them.
Don't think that happens with tobacco so much. It just makes me cough and buy more so I quit...

A friend of mine is an Oral Muscle Facial surgeon. He worked for a while in trauma and he said every case had the same thing in common, a male from 22-30 and liquor. From car accidents, to stabbings, to beatings, etc. He said with booze out of the equation he would be looking for a new job.
I would say liquor with tobacco a close second.

|
Tobacco wouldn't be nearly as bad if it weren't for all those nasty chemicals that they add to *enhance flavor* and make them burn nice and evenly.
I wouldn't want anyone I know to become addicted to cigarettes. Been there. Its hard to quit.

The way people use-and possibly abuse--these and other products is the problem.
That being said, I think they are going overboard about banning smoking, mainly because it is driving smokers outdoors, where they expose their habits to anyone passing by. Better to have "tobacco bars" where people can smoke inside and it is contained. I say this as a person who works in a health clinic where many patients are extremely chemically sensitive. I know how they suffer if they even get a whiff of tobacco smoke.
Marijuana should be legalized, taxed, and regulated, just as alcohol is. I believe legalization would result in fewer youngsters getting involved with the stuff and with other drugs.
Alcohol causes a lot of problems, but the greatest one for society is drunk driving, imho. And it is interesting that drunk driving accidents are often greater in "dry" counties where, again, there is no regulation of the bootleggers--legalization and regulation helps keep things more under control, I think.

37. Well - in honesty tobacco doesn't even belong on the list |
|
Tobacco might kill some of the people who regularly use it but that doesn't pose any threat to society. Social activity continues, interaction goes on, and nothing is much different with it or without it. Marijuana tends to increase social activity, interaction, cooperation, and so its certainly no threat at all. Alcohol (hope you don't mind my expanding your liquor to the larger subject) by contrast creates agressive and often hostile behavior - antisocial behavior. So the answer is pretty straight forward.
