A Plea From Us Hyper-Sensitive Types:
There have been several threads lately with VERY graphic stories, videos and/or pictures. I just hid one in GD that literally made me so sick to my stomach I had to vomit. I know I'm not alone in saying these stories/images LITERALLY stay with me for weeks/months and even years. I saw a graphic picture of a botched abortion victim in 1973 that haunts me to this day. Here is more information about being a Hyper Sensitive Person.

http://healing.about.com/od/empathic/a/HSP_hallowes.htm

Anyway, this is my request: PLEASE, if you have graphic videos/pictures in your post, put a "WARNING" in your subject line.

Thanks,

LTH

1. Yeah, I don't like to see that stuff either

I can't for the life of me figure out why any anotherise normal person, would get off on slasher/snuff films. That goes for stills too.

2. Actually, I don't really care if someone chooses to
watch (movie - not snuff film) violence -- that's their choice. I was asking posters on DU to give a "WARNING: GRAPHIC" notice on their Subject lines so those of us who are of the hyper-sensitive variety could avoid accidentally clicking on something that we just can't handle.

6. It's common courtesy, I think
just like putting SPOILERS in the subject line if you are discussing details about a book or a movie.

3. Thank you! I can't watch half the suff on tv for just this reason.
My friends make fun of me because of my avoidance of horror movies.

5. I'm like you
I also can't stand to listen to violence. My husband likes to watch "action" movies on his computer in the evening. I put on my headphones and listen to meditation/calming music to drown out the noise, which I find disturbing.

4. Many do, and I thank them
Those that don't---please put the warning. Like you, Le Taz Hot, I am sensitive to images and to sounds. One suggestion that might help (it has helped me) is to watch your breath when you see disturbing images. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that it changes from your normal rhythm. I would suggest that you take a four count in-breath followed by a four-count out-breath and keep doing so for a count of ten. This will not erase the disturbing image from your mind, but it will help you cope better by relieving the stress on the body viewing the image causes.

8. I'm with ya.
And I've become even more sensitive with age. You'd think one would be desensitized but the opposite is happening to me. SSRIs seem to help, btw. Still, have to avoid upsetting images when possible.

9. Wow, thank you for that link La Taz
I have a form of this disorder, never diagnosed but all the symptoms are there, painfully so. I've been in adequate in trying to make some of my loved ones understand what I go through and I think this will help with that.

Edited to add In the header/title
A warning such as something like **graphic image ** or **graphic sounds**
