Some frustrated with lead mandates
Jimmy Myers, stjoenews.net

With Congress saying “get the lead out,” local retailers and librarians are wondering if common sense gets chucked along with it.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which goes into effect Feb. 10, is meant to protect children from lead-laden products. But when the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission gave libraries two options, get rid of all your children’s books or ban anyone under 12 from entering the library, librarians across the country waited for the punch line. But it never came.

“I was speechless,” said Mary Beth Revels, director of the St. Joseph Public Library. “To know it wasn’t a joke and those were our choices.”

1. The CPSIA is the second most ham-fisted piece of legislation I've ever read.
next to the Patriot Act.

2. I'm sorry ...but this sounds like typical RW Pushback to Trivialize Lead problems...
Sounds like every RW Repug thing dug up or fantisized by the Heritage Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, etc. to make banning lead from China just a triviality promoted by Lefty Liberals who "throw paint on those who wear fur coats."

Read the whole thing...it's an Annie Coulter/Malkin thing to turn Dems and Mothers of Children onto themselves to gnaw off their limbs.

It's Metals from China. Go to your hardware store and buy a Lead Paint Test...there are several and go home and test your kids stuff. Most kids don't put books in their mouths but they do put toys and jewelry in their mouths.

RED HERRING CRAP put out there by RePUG FREE TRADE CHINA GROUPS! :puke:
