Keep your eyes to the skies and get your ass in the basement if you live in the area:hide:

4. I hated having to go down the basement during a warning |
|
My mom would always instruct us to hunker down beneath the laundry tub. There were huge, vicious, snarling spiders beneath that tub. I was less afraid of the tornado, than I was of the spiders.

my grandparents' cellar. Ugh. I hated going down there. This lovely storm system is headed my direction too. I'm still in snow and ice mode...not ready for severe weather yet. Guess it's too late for that, though.

|
I don't think there are many in Texas? My first taste of sitting in the basement waiting out a tornado warning was in Colorado. That basement sure looks good to me now.

5. I just talked to a friend in OKC. |
|
He says it is beautiful and they are showing great shots live on the local news. He is right in the path but not afraid.
Wish I could watch it live. Now that I live on the east coast I miss all the excitement.

14. Nope - he has lived there all of his life - all 62 years. |
|
If he had not grown up there he would have moved there just for the weather drama. Also, don't forget, Doppler (according to him) was developed there in Norman. I do know that when I moved to the east coast in the mid-80s no one had heard of Doppler Radar. That changed of course.

22. OKC has always had the latest radar warning system |
|
All the severe weather gadgets are developed and tested out of the OU North Campus in Norman. When they can give you 5-15 minutes warning down to the street-level address, it is a lot easier to appreciate the spectacle with less anxiety.
Grew up in OK and lived around Norman/OKC for over 10 years.

How many times have I run outside to look at the sky then run back in the house to grab the critters, take to the basement... stop in front of the tv for the latest doppler, run outside look at the sky, run back in the house, grab boxes (photos, personal papers, etc.), take to the basement, run back outside... repeat, repeat.
It's a good work-out LOL

36. You can stream weather coverage during these storms-- |
|
try http://www.news9.com/. We watched it all afternoon at work. Storms came right over our offices at least twice, and it's not over yet.

It's the ones up near Kansas and out west of OKC that roam for miles without running into anything.

I used to go to that bar after work on Fridays. Stopped when I noticed his fondness for certain flags. I'm not in his Ward so I didn't get the pleasure of voting against him today, however.

27. Since the REALLY big tornado |
|
in May, 1999 local stations don't break away from severe weather or really any thunderstorm in the Spring now. The station I'm watching has broken away from radar and is looking at the damage from earlier so Yukon is probably ok.

Looks like this one's going to miss us, at least the worst side of it. Still have a couple more systems to make it through. I can tell you one thing for sure, the temperature has seriously dropped.
