Michigan governor declares Wednesday 'Dingell Day'

Associated Press

1:39 PM CST, February 10, 2009

LANSING, Mich. - Congressman John Dingell is getting his own day of honor in Michigan.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has declared that Wednesday will be John Dingell Day in the state. The honor coincides with Dingell becoming the longest-serving member in the history of the U.S. House.

Dingell has spent more than 53 years in Congress. The 82-year-old is a Democrat from Dearborn.

Dingell was first sent to Congress in a special election in December 1955 to replace his father, who died in office.

1. Yay for Derek Dingle!
A British magician, who died in 2004, and was well known for very difficult sleight of hands involving cards and could not perform sober as it terrified him.
