Anyone else emotional about the state we are in tonight? |
|
I am feeling a barrage of it tonight. First the 65 year old homeless lady, then Gino, and I feel guilty that I took a job and was offered another one only a couple of days after I took the first. I love the one I took, but the second pays much more. I think I'm having a nervous fit. Help Mr. Wizard! There is so much need in this country I have to do something to help, but I don't know where to start. Can single people foster care children? I shouldn't be posting this I guess, maybe I should pick phone a friend.

1. Trying times we live. But be thankful for that job and if you can because you have a job help |
|
someone in need.;) Doesn't have to be big but the little things you do to help really count. If all of us who can, just help a little, we can make a big difference. Now cheer up you have a job or jobs to do. :-)

3. As long as the job you love pays enough to live on, don't even give the |
|
other offer a second thought, even though it pays more. You will be happier.

6. I know that in my heart, but my head tells me that financially, and in other ways, the second offer |
|
is the wisest for my situation. Money isn't everything, and trust me, I didn't take the first one for money. I could positively affect lives in both places. Why am I so fucking depressed. I should be jumping with joy!

4. I hope you are sleeping well now. The last 24 hours have been |
|
crazy for many. All mixed with positives and negatives. I don't know enough to elaborate, but we just went through an eclipse - I hope you're better in about two days. Me, too.

8. I just signed up today to foster two dogs. There are hundreds being thrown away |
|
and rescue groups need temporary foster homes while they find real homes for the animals. It is saving a life. not a small thing. And once theya re in a foster home and get all their medical things taken care of and groomed, etc, then it is easier to find them a home. And yes single people can foster children! But it is something you might want to think about first for a minute.....

10. I am down to 3 outcasted dogs and 2 outcasted kiddlies. I used to have 6 doggies all outcasts. |
|
2 died, 1 from old age and the other from something mysterious. The third had to go to another home because she got into a fight with my old ugly dog. I have never check on her (the one I had to give up) because she went to a richie home and it would kill me to know about her. The richies seemed nice enough, but I have no love for richies. Yes of course I would not jump into fostering without all the planning, research on details, preparation etc that would come from taking on such a responsibility. I would have a problem with giving up a foster child after the attachment was made. Maybe just build a room with a kitchen and bathroom and shelter a homeless family, can that be a non-profit. Add a room with habitat for humanity or something? No one wants to take me up on the back yard tent idea. It was a pretty sorry idea, but my house is dinky. I would take that little 65 year old lady in for as long as she wanted to stay! My heart is breaking for her.

19. Oh no, don't cry. We are all going to get through this. and we will be stronger when we do. |
|
ANd the really important things will be more obvious. As they are to you right this minute. This hurting for humankind is love, and is a good thing. Empathy. Justice. All the things we stand for. Those are the feelings that are making you cry.

Just don't think I could take in a bushitler. I'll have to ask them to reveal their party affiliation first. :P (Would that be discrimination?)

9. Kentucky played a basketball game tonight... |
|
They had never lost 3 games in a row at home. Never... But they had lost two in a row and were playing the Florida Gators, a dangerous team, whose Gators had won 2 out of the last 5 championships. The fans were more than grumpy. But there was something in the air...
Something very similar to what you feel tonight, lonestarnot.
There is a helpful spirit in the air. It touches the soul and heart and moves on. But after it is gone, it is still there. A feeling of compassion lingers in your whole body.
But the helpful spirits are strong. They do not give up. They search their souls deeply for the truth. And the good does triumph in the end.
By the way, Kentucky Wildcats beat the Florida Gators tonight 68-65 with Jodie Meeks making the three-point shot to win the game with about 4.5 seconds left in the game.
:-)

14. Call social services in your city |
|
remember not to do this by impulse, but they may have a place for you to help
and that may take many forms... from taking a kid in, to simply fostering kids at the local boys and girls club

25. They have procedures they have to follow |
|
almost all social services have them, so there will be red tape
The last thing they want is any body showing up to do stuff.
But that is part of the packet. The red tape

24. lonestarnot, ask the local foster care people if you're eligible |
|
Our aunt works for the Casey Foundation; she's asked us several times now if we're still not interested in fostering a child. Let me tell you, when I see stories like she-who-will-not-be-named (AKA IVF Gone Wild,)I know even imperfect parenting might be better than none at all. The child in question might be stuck with the two most uncool adults in the neighborhood, but they'd never doubt for a minute that they were important to us, they were loved, and we would do our very best to make sure they got a great education, good food, clothes, and whatever else they needed.
I think you should go for it. If they say "no", they say "no," but there could be a kid out there right now that's hoping for someone as caring as you are.
