Got the notice from my XM radio provider they're increasing the
2 additional radios from $6.99 to $8.99!!! Well, gonna let that subscription run out on both of them. We'll just keep the XM in my husbands car. I thought with that merger with Sirius , the price was going down??? What's up with that???

1. Don't monopolies generally drive prices down?
:sarcasm:

2. I hear they're about to file for bankruptcy as well.
So glad the merger with Sirius/XM got approved. Now there's no competition, and they can do whatever the hell they want to do, which includes raising prices, changing or canceling channels, etc.

Thanks, Bush government, for yet another mess!

17. You can thank right-wing terrestrial radio, the FCC and Congress.....
....for holding it up long enough in committee to make it ineffective in it's intent and cause satellite radio to be nothing but a rotting husk. Now the bones will probably be picked at by vultures like NewsCorp or Clear Channel and it will be mandatory Fat Druggie and Kid Diddler Hannity 24/7!!

12. I called to cancel on Monday, what a chore
Since our Big Three household is taking a Big Pay Cut this week, we're looking to cut costs any way we can, and this one was #1 on the list. It took me an hour to complete the transaction! I was kept on hold for 30 minutes, finally got through to a guy in India who couldn't understand why I would want to cancel, begged me to reconsider, then he gave up and put me on hold for another 10 minutes. Then I spoke with an Indian lady who was apparently their top salesperson, tasked with doing everything in her power to keep my business. She sweet-talked me like crazy, offered me 3 months of free service, offered me everything but a kiss, and once she finally understood that I was adamant, she turned into mega-bitch and treated me like shit. The whole thing took an hour, but at least it's done! I enjoyed XM, but not in this economy, sadly.

13. They've been burning my phone line off for the past few weeks
I cancelled my contract in January because of the rate increases and the horrible channel lineups (DJ's that talk more than play music) and since then they've called at least twice a week to beg me to come back. Offerring three free months and other nonsense that does nothing to address the problems at hand. I've asked repeatedly for these people not to call back but they continue doing so.

They must really be in bad shape if they are shaking the trees as much as they are.

15. Save The Radio As A Collector's Item...
Yesterday I posted a about Sirius-XM going bankrupt...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5026021

One of the major reasons is people like you who weren't satisfied with the service and didn't renew. The company squandered billions over the years and the debt has been suffocating them for the past couple years (why the two merged)...and it didn't do any good. The debt is even bigger in a time of constricting economy. When you're trying to keep a roof over your head, a satellite radio is a luxuary more and more can't afford.

I'd sit tight and see how this bankruptcy works out...and what remains. The only perspective buyer (actually bought up a lot of the junk loans) appears to be looking to canabalize the system for Dish network...speculation is that if he takes control, what will remain will be a very basic service relaying existing radio stations.

It's not your fault to believe they were gonna lower rates...not with all the debt they have. Anyone whose a subscriber is expected to pay for their largess.

Cheers...
