Sarah Palin Wishes Herself a Happy Birthday Press Conference...Also (with videos)
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 11:33 PM by Blue_In_AK
Poor Sarah, she's had a rough week. Here's Shannyn Moore's report of Sarah's press conference today. Her body language speaks volumes.

http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/2009/02/11/sarah-palin-wishes-herself-a-happy-birthday-press-conferencealso/

My written & video notes on Sarah’s Press Conference:

Dressed in red, Governor Sarah Palin is having herself a birthday photo op. I guess the large heart shaped box of chocolates on the table is to sweeten the bullsh$% she’s shoveling. She’s responding to Dennis Zaki’s brilliant journalism covering the villages of Western Alaska. CNN picked up the story and that’s why all the Commissioners are gathered around their Governor -- very Star Trekky.

Extending moose hunting season for the poverty struck Lower Yukon region was her first response. Really? There are jobs available on catcher/processors citizens can apply for. Really? So, they can leave their homes, go live on a ship that brings up images from the Matrix. Really? But, they just aren’t really sure what those jobs would be. They signed the poor up for Federal programs. Wow. We can build roads between all these villages! They can share! One school, one hospital, one airport. Neat! “Economy of scale.” “Cluster Village.” So, people who can’t afford heating fuel or gas for their snowmachine should be able to purchase cars, have them shipped out there and then fuel them up so they can drive miles and miles to your nearest “Cluster f%*@.”

<snip> - much more, and more video clips.

3. Wow, I guess it is impossible to ignore Sarah Palin.

I've been trying to go even one day without reading something about Palin. This post here is like the 4th today!

I guess I'll have to quit coming to DU to get away from her. and stop watching tv, reading any other blog, listening to any radio...

sigh

5. Hey, you don't have to click on the thread
I skip hundreds of threads a day that I'm not interested in.

Some people here are interested in watching her deconstruct. I posted this for amusement more than anything.

12. Yeah, I know. You're right.
I click on them because I have become addicted to something that I would rather not have to confront every day.

Yes, I do click on them. I admit it.

Yes, I could skip them, but just like it's hard for me to successfully quit smoking when I'm always hanging around smokers, I can't resist. Maybe I should just spend all my time in the Saraholic Recovery Support Group Forum.

15. Oh, thank you.
I thought you were mad at me for posting Sarah stories. She's kind of an addiction for me, too, but much more personal since I live here.

9. The Hide button is your friend.
Right now I'm hiding all the octomom threads -- just not interesting in that debacle and don't see the point in debating it. I usually hide the Palin threads because I don't give a shit about her. Once in a while the temptation overcomes me and I "peek." There are other topics I routinely hide, but I'm not going to admit it openly because I'd be lit up like a torch.

11. That's an excellent idea, Catshrink.
I don't put topics on "ignore" -- I just ignore them. :) I don't think I've opened one Octomom thread either.

Sarah's like a trainwreck -- you don't want to watch, but it's hard to look away.

4. How many people are affected?
It sounds like maybe 2-3,000 total? How can Alaska/US not afford to just send these people some oil assistance money?

6. Individual Alaskans have organized and sent food and money
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 12:01 AM by Blue_In_AK
out there, but so far the State (i.e., Sarah) has done nothing except send some of her people out to talk to people. There has been no action.

Here's a good story about some Anchorage middle school kids who have organized a food drive http://theimmoralminority.blogspot.com/2009/02/as-our-governor-sits-on-her-hands.html

Sarah is just worthless and every day more and more people are wising up.

I know people here are tired of hearing about her, but I am just wanting to let people know that we're trying to take her down. Schadenfreude.

8. I meant the state/federal
I saw that local people are trying to help, thank goodness for that.

I was thinking of the comment by some official who said they couldn't declare a salmon disaster and send money, so they were trying to find another way. I was thinking it sounds like it's not that many people, how hard can it be for the state or the feds to just write the damn checks.

There's a bill in our state about allowing military kids and spouses to go to college at state rates. Are you kidding me? That isn't already a law?

No brainers. Just blows me away.

14. Sarah's kind of schizophrenic about handouts.
She gave everyone in the state a $1200 energy rebate last year (is that $700 million?) when she could have more effectively targeted the money to the problems in western Alaska which were foreseen last August. I think she knew in the summer that John McCain was going to pick her and she thought by giving everyone money she could buy our votes. There was dissent in the legislature at the time, but the shortsighted (and politically convenient) plan won out.

7. Hey Blue...
does it seem as if she inadvertently brought more attention to the things she wasn't taking care of in AK when she ran for VP? Or were the people there already starting to realize she really wasn't taking care of business?

Seems like the people of Alaska are getting pretty fed up with her...which is a good thing actually.

10. Things were just starting to come to light
with the firing of Walt Monegan. She promised at that time that she was going to be "open and transparent" about what happened, and she actually had quite a bit of sympathy going for her because Wooten, at least according to media accounts, had "issues."

She was also being quite bipartisan, working very well with the Democrats in the legislature and speaking favorably of Obama. I think we probably could have worked through that investigation, and kept her on track.

But the instant John McCain picked her as VP, the RNC's goons, with the assistance of Liberty Legal Institute "lawyers," swept in here and took over our state government, shutting down the investigation to the point of advising people to ignore legislative subpoenas, forcing court battles. It was all so "Bush-like." That really pissed people off here -- the fact that these Outsiders could come in here and try to bully us around, presumably on Sarah's behalf, just didn't sit right.

When we saw her speech at the convention, we couldn't believe it. We had NEVER heard that kind of talk from her before. I sat down to watch her hoping that she would represent Alaska well, and I had to turn her off in disgust after about five minutes. It was so shocking.

Now she's come back here to a whole different climate where we don't see her in the same light as before. So she's gotten defensive and secretive, which just makes things worse. Republican partisanship brought out the ugly in her. She used to be somewhat likable -- now I can't stand to see her face...either one of them.

She could have avoided all of this by just saying "thanks, but no thanks" to John McCain, dealing with the Monegan matter openly and then moving on to other matters. I think if she had done that, if she hadn't gotten the national attention and flattery, she might have straightened up and been a halfway decent governor. It's too late now, though. We can't trust her anymore.

13. Karma is a mofo....and she was a nasty little something on the
campaign trail. I guess it's good Alaskan's got a chance to see who she really is. Thanks for the info. I like you keeping us posted. I think she'll be back in 2012, so it's good to keep tabs on her.

16. She was horrible on the campaign trail
and she made Alaskans look SO BAD. It's true, she DID have an 80% approval rating -- but that was the OTHER Sarah, the one who had taken on the Republican "old boy" establishment, raised taxes on the oil companies, toughened ethics laws. We liked her, she was feisty. She wasn't Frank Murkowski!! But the people outside of Alaska never knew that person. They saw "bad Sarah" and then figured Alaskans must all be a bunch of crazy right-wing wackos to give that witch 80% approval.

Of course, we've got our right-wing wackos, and they still support Sarah, but the people in the middle are deserting her in droves.

17. Good. I will always dislike her. She was horrible and she enjoyed
every minute of it. She riled up the racist nut jobs and she set women back a long way with her inability to answer simple questions.
