Extend Obama's term to eight years now.
It is bad and going to get worse, no matter what Obama does. To avoid getting blamed for making it worse, he has to give in to the Republicans. If he tries something different he will get blamed for making it worse and get crucified for the 2012 election.. When times are bad like this, the term for President should be extended to eight years. Then he can at least try something without worrying about getting kicked out in the middle of his plan.

12. I also painted the roof of my house white
and save about $100 a month on my utility bill. Who has thought of that ? :)

21. Was the only house in my neighborhood that didn't need a new
roof after Ivan. Newspaper story about it.

24. I'll get something for you.
I initially developed the procedure with the low income and poor in mind. I wanted to cut their power bills. I saw many houses in poor neighborhoods with black shingled roofs and window AC's. I memorialized the process on my roof. Unpainted black was 192 degrees and 102 where painted white. 90 degree drop.

14. I think your initial reaction has overlooked the long term solution
required to solve the current economic disaster. If Obama doesn't get eight years, we will get another Bush.

17. Cool new name. I like it.

:)

Does it signify anything?

Me: I once had a student named Quantess, and I just thought it was kind of a cool name.

19. Thanks.
It's my gaming name. Was glad I had the chance to change it. Made up sparosnare when I first became a member of DU and never liked it much. :hi:

23. sparosnare was fairly good, too.
When I first signed up, I intended for my name to be Quantess. I am not sure what happened, but I ended up getting registered as quantessd by mistake. I remember there was a blank for "username" and a blank for "real name". Of course, not eager to give out my real name, I listed my real name as Quantess D and my username as Quantess. I was slightly disappointed at being "quantessd" at first, but I got so used to it, I almost didn't want to change my name.

Anyway, good choice. Now watch, someone will steal your name because it's so cool! I hope not. ;)

4. Hmmmm...well, the way I see it...
I don't really care who he gives in to as long as the problem looks well on its way to being fixed.

So if it takes a bit of humility (i.e. giving in a little to Republicans) to get things back on track, then what the hell. Go for it...just get us out of this hellhole we're in.

I do think, though, that even slight progress during the next four years will be viewed as a major improvement.

I saw some "moran" on CNN the other day (where people can email or send videos of themselves opining on different things) who said that the current plan isn't "perfect" and we shouldn't do anything until it IS "perfect"...and I'm thinking...DUDE!!!! We should sit around waiting for the "patient" to die while we try to figure out a "perfect cure"? We can't just sit around...we have to do something, even if it ISN'T "perfect".

Anyway, just like Bush claimed "you don't switch horses in mid-stream" to justify continuing his reign of terror in 2004, I think reasonable people will probably give Obama a chance to try and finish what he started

:)

11. It hasn't always been limited to two consecutive terms.
What makes it so sacred when I bring it up? How many terms did FDR have ? Rhetorical in case grammar skills match history skills . :)

18. Slavery was "Constitutional" at one time
And women not being able to vote too. As matter of fact, prohibition was a Constitutional amendment also.

9. Cool, and as long as we are suspending the Constitution
Obama should end Habeas Corpus too so he can round up his critics like Lincoln did.

In 1862, when copperhead democrats began criticizing Lincoln's violation of the Constitution, Lincoln suspended habeas corpus throughout the nation and had many copperhead democrats arrested under military authority because he felt that the State Courts in the north west would not convict war protesters such as the copperheads. He proclaimed that all persons who discouraged enlistments or engaged in disloyal practices would come under Martial Law.

Or are you making a really stupid joke.
