Teacher in Texas suspended for being "an atheist and a liberal"
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 12:14 AM by hyphenate
One of my favorite websites is Pharyngula, part of Scienceblogs. Author PZ Myers is the blogger, and one of the areas he concentrates on is evolution vs creationism, and other educational issues. This particular entry, with mega comments is about a teacher in Texas who has been suspended (indefinitely) who several parents have accused of being an "atheist" and want removed from the school.

Here is a link to the blog and comments--you will find some of the comments really quite droll, and definitely a better time had by all over what some of the racists and nitwit parents might have engaged in.

On edit: other sites are adding information on this story as well. Here is another article on the subject:

2. One good thing about his
despicable nonsense is that 100 kids who signed that petition (and who were the 3 who did?) are in the process of getting the best education of their young lives so far:

They're being turned into life-long liberals who are going to be very, very aware of how easily it is to persecute someone whose beliefs might or might not be different from those of others.

The teacher sounds like a good man.

Good for those 100 kids.

This is America.

This story needs to get SERIES publicity. Have you sent it to "Countdown"?

countdown@msnbc.com

Do it.

And thank you.

3. Yep.
Some politician in Nacogdoches (Home of Stephen F. Austin State College) said that they did not follow the Constitution there (from a Molly Ivins column I remember).

And there are some Democrats in East Texas. I am one of them.

However, I have no friends here. I don't go to the Church of Christ/Baptist/Methodist Church; I don't like football or basketball; and I don't like whiny nasal shitkick music.

Therefore I have no friends.

9. The genius of the Texas logic
once again proves my point about inbreeding. There really isn't any other logical explanation.

My husband once suggested we move to Tyler Texas... I asked him how he felt about divorce. :eyes: He came 'round and realized he was just temporarily insane.

11. Inbreeding in Texas? For years we've had quite a diversification of our genepool.
Quite an influx of people from all over the country as well as the rest of the world.

Plenty of Californians too. They're welcome but it's fine with us that yet one more couple decided to stay put.

12. I know we have a number of Texans on this board, but...
I have only met a single Texan who didn't fit every stereotype Texas has to offer. Texas reminds me of Louisiana with erectile dysfunction. Sorry, DU Texans, just my experience!

15. Texas makes Florida look sane and reasonable
the only debate about Texas is which part of it is full of the most football-addled, inbred, slack-jawed, redneck morons.
