CODEPINK: Send a Peace Valentine to Obama!
Date: Feb 13, 2009 10:07 PM
Subject: Send a Peace Valentine to Obama!

I Sent the President a Valentine.
Will you?

Roses are red. Violets are blue. Obama promised change.
Now it's up to You!

To our heartbreak, Obama is furthering of Bush's tragic legacy in the Middle East by bombing Afghanistan and Pakistan and by appointing hawkish Dennis Ross to be in charge of diplomacy with Iran. It is said that the definition of insanity is to repeat the same action but to expect a different result. President Obama is a deeply intelligent man, but it is crazy for him to stay on Bush's course of empire building, and all the devastation and loss of life it leaves in its wake. Obama promised change; well, sometimes the best way to change is to STOP.

With hope in our hearts, let us shower the White House with Valetines today with the message STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE, STOP IN THE NAME OF CHANGE!

Download the Valentine's Day card here or make your own!

http://codepinkalert.org/downloads/valentine-to-obama.pdf

Then Fax it to the White House at (202) 456-2461.

Send your Valentine today and remind Obama to keep his promises to the American people by creating true and lasting change, not more of the same failed policies.

Sincerely,
Paris
CODEPINK

20 years after the withdrawal of the Red Army forces from Afghanistan, Afghans still remember those bloody days

Today, February 14th, is the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal of the former Soviet Union troops from Afghanistan.

The last unit of the red army troops left Afghanistan on the same day, through crossing Hairatan Bridge in the north.

February 14th is one of the most proud and everlasting days in the country’s history.

The former Soviet Union troops invaded Afghanistan, along with their fighter jets and heavy artilleries in 1979.

Analysts believe that the Soviet Union was the greatest military power in the world at that time.

The Russians suffered heavy casualties during their nine years war in Afghanistan.

Hundreds of Russian arms were destroyed or handed over to Mujahidden.

Some of these artilleries, such as fighter jets, are still used by the Afghan army.

According to some reports, 12 to 15 thousand Russian soldiers were killed during the Soviet-Afghan war.

The Soviet Union, which spent billions of dollars in their war against Afghanistan, left the country without a single political and military achievement.

..more.
