If so, we may as well give up on health care and most everything else.
C'mon Reid. 50 votes + 1 = majority. If the regressives want to filibuster, then let 'em filibuster goddamnit.

1. My understanding is that the only reason it requires 60 votes
is because it adds to the budget deficit. If this is correct, other bills will not require 60, only a simple majority.

2. Of course, it makes the argument to get 65-70 Ds in the Senate, don't you think?

4. Well yes. But until then I would like some progress in things
like health care and environment.

3. That was my feeling too, but I've been thinking...
...what good will forcing an actual filibuster do, except create a media circus and give the Rape-Publicans hours and hours of face time in the well of the Senate?

Just askin'.

Well, my thought is that it would expose the Repugs and their
greed and hate to sunlight.

7. To let the public know, in no uncertain terms what's going on...
If you tell someone that the Repubs fillibustered 95 times in the last session, they will most likely go "Huh?"

It has never really gotten out that the Repubs have been obstructing progress for a lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng time.

13. Can we be confident, however, that the Corporate Whore Media will play it that way?
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 12:39 PM by ClassWarrior
Or will they play it as "heroic Rape-Publicans defending the American taxpayer?" You yourself say, "It has never really gotten out that the Repubs have been obstructing progress for a lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng time." Who's to blame for that? The Corporate Media. What makes this any different?

I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying it occurs to me that it has the potential to backfire, and that we need to think it through instead of just having a knee-jerk reaction.

8. Call the bluff. Every time. Every single time.
Walk up to Republicans and hand them selected reading material by way of encouraging them. Offer them water bottles and MRE's. Trail mix. Tell them you'll bring in a port-a-potty or okay a catheter.

MAKE THEM DO IT.

10. only thing I can figure is that they are much more worried about re-election
than doing the right thing. They are like the cowardly lion. They need to see the Wizard of Obama and get some courage.

11. I would guess yes for the most part.
The American Taliban has interest in holding on to the few haters they have left. Now it is time for hate radio errr.. right wing radio to step in along with fox news to up the ante and provide them new sheep to slaughter by pushing the envelope of hate a little further. They plan on making hate so acceptable by many Americans that they can once again start winning votes. Just look at Israel and you have your narrative.

It is their final solution a race to the top or bottom depending on how delusional you are.
