1. He did it to embarrass Obama. This one I doubt, only if he planes on running re-election in NH. If something like that got out it would probably sink him in the GE

2. The republikkans pressured him to get back in the Senate as he is their only chance of keeping NH

3. The Ambramoff associating came up with several seriously embarrassing problems that he didn't want to get out.
