Dump the GOP Elephant logo and bring on.....
In light of these two stories:

---GOP lawmakers tout projects in the stimulus bill they opposed
By David Lightman
Feb 13, 2009 - Mcclatchy Newspapers

Rep. John Mica was gushing after the House of Representatives voted Friday to pass the big stimulus plan.

"I applaud President Obama's recognition that high-speed rail should be part of America's future," the Florida Republican beamed in a press release.

Yet Mica had just joined every other GOP House member in voting against the $787.2 billion economic recovery plan.

---snip---

Young boasted that he "won a victory for the Alaska Native contracting program and other Alaska small business owners last night in H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act."

One provision would have made it harder for minority businesses to win contracts, and Young explained that he "worked with members on the other side of the aisle to make the case for these programs, and was able to get the provision pulled from the bill."

Yet later in the day Young — who recently told McClatchy that he would've included earmarks, or local projects, in the bill if it had been permitted — issued another statement blasting the overall measure.

"This bill was not a stimulus bill. It was a vehicle for pet projects, and that's wrong," he protested.

---Specter - Republicans Support Stimulus, Do Not Want Fingerprints On It

Feb 13, 2009 - Huffington Post

--snip--

"I think there are a lot of people in the Republican caucus who are glad to see this action taken without their fingerprints, without their participation," he said.

Specter was asked, How many of your colleagues?

"I think a sizable number," he said. "I think a good part of the caucus agrees with the person I quoted, but I wouldn't want to begin to speculate on numbers."

May I present the NEW GOP LOGO:

4. The new GOP symbol should be a condom!
Because it:

1) Halts production

2) Protects pricks

AND

3) gives a false sense of security when you're getting screwed!

It hurts a little every time I see people knocking elephants around here. I love elephants. No animal should be made to represent republicans, even mosquitoes are more right with the world.

Maybe then can be ticks

28. Keep your eyes and ear open
President Obama is said to be signing the Jobs Bill on Tuesday (2/17)

The final vote in the House had ZERO-NADA-NONE-ZIPPO repub support. In the Senate, 3 repubs (Snow, Spector and Collins) voted for the bill, the remaining repub senators voted against it.

We know this GOP-NOPE Vote was based purely on concern for their party and not out of concern for "deficits" or for "American People". This was playing to their base, taking their lead from limbaugh and other mouth-foamers.

As indicated in the articles in the lead post of this thread - repubs are trying to take credit for the passage. The repub game of Spin-the-blather has begun.

Keep your eyes and ears open for more repubs to tout their "efforts and support" of the Jobs Bill.

Might want to keep this little quote handy when battling mouth-foamers regarding deficits:

ask them "who said - '...Reagan proved deficits don't matter. We won. This is our due.'.."

Most likely they will attribute the quote to a Dem.

That's when you smile and say "Nope. Vice-President Dick Cheney - a Republican. He said it to Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill in December 2002 after O'Neill expressed concern over deficits."

http://www.ontheissues.org/2004/Dick_Cheney_Budget_+_Economy.htm -- Dick Cheney on Budget & Economy

Cheney to Treasury: "Deficits don't matter"
Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill was told "deficits don't matter" when he warned of a looming fiscal crisis.
O'Neill, fired in a shakeup of Bush's economic team in December 2002, raised objections to a new round of tax cuts and said the president balked at his more aggressive plan to combat corporate crime after a string of accounting scandals because of opposition from "the corporate crowd," a key constituency.

O'Neill said he tried to warn Vice President Dick Cheney that growing budget deficits-expected to top $500 billion this fiscal year alone-posed a threat to the economy. Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due." A month later, Cheney told the Treasury secretary he was fired.

The vice president's office had no immediate comment, but John Snow, who replaced O'Neill, insisted that deficits "do matter" to the administration.
