1. It would have to be a state, and then it would have two senators
And I DON'T think you're crazy, just sensible. If Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota can have two senators, why not the State of Columbia? But I'm afraid it will never happen.

2. Ammend the Constitution to make an exception for DC
That, because it is a city-state, it gets just 1 senator, and based on population, at least one Rep.

5. The Constitution has two non-amendable provisions.

1. The slave trade cannot be outlawed before 1800.

2. Every state must have equal representation in the Senate.

3. DC is bigger than many of those square states out west in population.
I think it ought to be a state to help balance the disproportionately large representation those states get.

16. It's only more populous than Cheneyville
(Wyoming.)

IMHO the problem with the district is that so many of those without a voice in Congress are low income people. I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better to disaggregate large swaths of the district and annex them to VA and MD, leaving a core area that is essentially nonresidential and Federal.

4. Why not let D.C. have one rep and share senators with a bordering state?
I haven't thought this through, but it's one way that could avoid having to change the Constitution.

22. Maryland should just absorb DC
Virginia re-absorbed the part of DC south of the Potomac. Why not give the northern part of DC to Maryland? Then they get representatives, senators, State Police, all that stuff

:hi:

8. I think having it as a separate city seems odd - doesn't the UN meet in NYC
not in a neutral space? I think D.C. should be its own state or a city within MD

18. The Rockefeller's donated the land.
It's U.N. property so it's not a part of the U.S. Then each country's respective mission is a part of that country as well, the same as an embassy.

10. To let D.C. in as a state they would have to let in a state that would become repuke
That's the way it is generally done and I can't think of a place that's looking for statehood that is inhabited predominantly by assholes so it will never happen.

15. Exactly, those Senators would be Dems. It's pretty much a given.
They would have to find another area that would provide two repuke senators. It's the only way a D.C. statehood bill would pass. Beyond that, I think there is some issue with gun laws that is holding it up as well.
