Whenever things look really dire, I tell myself these truths.

John McCain could have been the one who took the oath of office. (Stranger things have happened.)

Sarah Palin could be panting in the wings.

All of Bush's last minute executive orders would have taken effect.

The only thing being stimulated would be the war in Iraq. Or Korea. Or . . . ?

McCain might have already had his first TIA.

In the 24 hrs. he was in the hospital, Palin might have already had her first stint at being acting Commander-in-Chief.

Over the course of the next 4 years, McCain -- or more likely Palin -- could have had 2 or 3 opportunities to appoint a Supreme Court Justice.

Half the country could be unemployed and the Rethug answer would still be: MORE TAX CUTS!!!

But Barack Hussein Obama is President.

So all those on the right -- and even the few on the left -- who are drooling for their own personal vision of the end times will have to wait.

Obama and Biden have our back.
