Local media is really promoting action against the stimulus (Seattle)
Both King (nbc) and Kiro (cbs) did stories on the stimulus on the late news, emphasizing the negative, (biggest spending bill in HISTORY!!!), the only benefit to Washington state is medicare funds, (what??) and Kiro actually promoted an anti-stimulus protest on Monday in downtown Seattle. The KIRO story had a women who railed on and on about the how the stimulus would not do anything to help, and she was someone to be believed because she was a "teacher". i have no doubt she was a teacher, but I would bet it wasn't a public school. There was no alternate opinion.

It is amazing how right wing talking points filter down to the "respectable" media, and are reported as news, instead of opinion. Local, and national news for that matter, should know the difference. Especially with layoffs at some of our areas biggest employers, Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, and the banks.

10. It matters because this won't be the last spending bill Obama has to get
through Congress. The media shouldn't be spreading lies.

7. It is but our local TV isn't
I rarely watch them anymore. I didn't think KOMO was as bad as KING, and sometimes KIRO, though.

9. The media is horribly right wing around here unfortunately.
The ABC affiliate (KOMO) is owned by the same company that owns the local hate radio AM station, KIRO is (or at used to be) owned by the Mormon church, and KING is owned by the right wing Belo corporation. The right wing REALLY wants to take over this state. I don't know why they have targeted Washington specifically, but the fucking bastards can't have it.

4. I betcha the republican fuckwit Robert Mak is getting too much control over spin like this...
In any case, keep in mind The Big Disconnect, and be not dismayed:

The Big Disconnect

"It's eerie -- I read the news from the Beltway, and there's this disconnect with the polls from the Midwest that I see all around me."

That's from Ann Selzer, the Iowa pollster who's an expert on public opinion throughout the midwest, as quoted by Ben Smith.

It really is the big story of the first weeks of the Obama administration. In Washington, it was a battle royale between the new president and an emboldened Republican minority. At times they seemed to have him on the ropes. And yet in the country at large, Obama remains super popular. And the GOP is wildly unpopular.

Moral: Working the refs is a valuable exercise only if people actually *listen* to the refs. Methinks that republicans have been TOO successful with the refs - instead of republicans suckling credibility from good press, it's the other way 'round: the press has been dragged down into ignominy by the republicans, and is ignored.

8. Not surprising.
While the population is mostly liberal the local media is owned by conservatives. It was one of the first markets to dump Bill Mahers Politically Incorrect show, after 9/11.
