Obama Collector's Coins Turn Out To Be Stickers Stuck On Regular Coins
By Chris Walters, 6:32 PM on Sat Feb 14 2009,

You may have seen the commercial where Montel Williams hawks some goofy collectible coins with President Obama's face IN FULL COLOR OMG. If you were planning on ordering some, though, watch this video from KATU 2 TV in Portland, Oregon first.* A father and daughter bought the coins and discovered that they're just regular money with color stickers applied. One of the news anchors even comments that she could see the face on the coin through the sticker when she looked at it from the side.

The company that's scamming them, U.S. Coin Network (uscoinnetwork.com and obamacoincollection.com), won't let them cancel the remaining orders they placed that haven't shipped yet, either.

We think this looks like the sort of thing the feds may want to get involved in. And if they don't do anything about it, we're going to go buy some new ink for the old color printer and start selling collectible Obama Pennies online.

2. Well, I figured they were common coins
But I thought they would at least be hand painted or adorned with some cool plated image. But stickers?

Wow. Cheapy, cheapy cheap.

3. But It Sure Looks Nice Next To The Stuff I Bought On QVC...
Like that idiotic "colorized" 9/11 coin. Then there's the scam of trying to make people believe these are some kind of "official" coin that will actually have value in the future. But then this crap always shows up...it's the "American Way" to exploit any special event and hope some suckers will buy it.

8. Only if the stated the coins are legal tender and backed by full faith and credit of US Mint.
Likely they are smart enough to not cross that line.

Just because people think they are valuable and are mislead is not enough to get the Secret Service involved.

9. they're probably still worth whatever the face value is
so that Obama quarter you forked over $24.99 for is still worth $.25.

Stickers? How tacky - couldn't they have at least gone for paint?
