My husband and I, and several of our friends, noted with interest the provision in the stimulus package for a $15,000 tax rebate for the purchase of a house... any house, so the nine month glut on the market that has tied up contractor's funds and left them holding houses that can't sell would be used up....
It was proposed by a republican who then, after Rush Limbaugh told him to, voted against the bill.
In a subsequent round of revisions, the democrats took that provision out. Which I understand perfectly.
On the other hand, it made a LOT of sens for empty nesters like ourselves, without a lot of money hanging around that we want to pull out of anything and reinvest, but perhaps the immediate wherewithal to obtain a house on the market, keep it maintained, move in, hang onto, sell, or rent..
The entire stimulus package was made available for public information early after beginning in the House, and almost immediately, republicans began standing in front of microphones complaining its pork - thundering, waving papers, and grandstanding about it.
All legislation in every state and at the Fed. government goes through the same process, introduction, mark up, mark down, amendment after amendment as first one then the other speaks their piece... the bill is the bill, with new amendments published hourly as they happen... For the three weeks that it took to get the bill through both the House and Senate and back to conference and passed, the Republicans - to a man, claimed it was pork, not enough jobs, too much spending and not enough taxes... they broke away and came up with one of their own that didn't get any support, all the time, pretending to Americans they were aware of what was in the bill and what they didn't like.
Now its passed, and to a man, they republicans are proving to be lyin sacks of poop... No One has read this bill.... A lie to the American people who were counting on them to get in there and do their jobs... now they're safer admitting they didn't than to admit they lied that they did or that they're lying now?
Why doesn't the press call them on this?
