About hearts.
There are some members of DU who are very visible, very active (average number of posts/day can be in the 60 - 100's). Even I, who doesn't tend to pay much attention to who wrote the post, remember their names.

Other members, like me, are less active and less vocal (my average per day post rate is 2 and would be even lower if you counted the length of time I was a lurker).

As someone who doesn't post a lot and who doesn't tend to remember people unless they do post a lot, I just want to say how special my hearts make me feel. They tell me that somehow, somewhere, someway I touched someone's life, even without saying a lot. It gives me a warm glow.

3. you know what though.... i post a lot and when i read i do NOT look at names
very often. so it takes something huge for me to remember posters. generall i just read the post and then go on or chat....

one person said i was following him around on his various postings going after him. was a surprise to me, cause didnt even recognize the poster. after that when i would get an immediate knee jerk feel tot he poster i would look and see his name. something i would just naturally post on, but stopped and purposely didnt post. that poster just pushed my intolerance of stupid and he was consistently posting stupid, lol lol hence why i was "following" him around.

at that point i made the effort to never post on his posts.

4. Good points
I guess the key in my OP was for someone like me who doesn't notice (regardless of the number of posts), it makes me feel special to have been noticed.

33. I'm exactly the same way
I hardly ever look at names. The only times I do is when someone is particularly stupid or nasty.

I think it just goes to show that there are alot of folks here that are not interested in cliques. Well, either that or we're just clueless... :)

45. Someone thought you were stalking??
i have noticed that once in a while, my posts will follow another poster's for a few days or so. Just the way a night of poker can end up giving you all low cards or all high ones.

It is such a random thing - and given that the search function on DU doesn't often register the latest comments, it's hard to figure out how you'd stalk someone. Unless either they are always putting up OPS (which would make it very simple) or you managed to hack into their machine - and then why wouldn't you just go to Fiji on their credit card or whatever? (Pls believe me, I have NO ability to do that, so anyone thinking I am stalking them, get over it.)

47. i am so computer illiterate, i dont even know what you are talking, lol. he would
just say really stupid things on subject line to the point of ignorant so reading a thread i would stop at his post to point out the stupid. lol lol. never looked at name. never realized i kept running into same poster until he got so angry and asked if i was stalking him

was a huge wtf to me, lol

then once i had name in head, i would go to respond to a stupid post, i would see his name. i realized WHY i kept posting on his, lol. when i told him my innocence and why i kept posting on his, no conscience effort on my part, .... he didnt appreciate it anymore than stalking, lol

ah well

he hasnt been on board for a while. just a funny

12. Happy belated Valentine's Day drmeow.
This really is a wonderful forum with some really unique and interesting members that agree and sometimes don't. Regardless of which side of the fence you're on or how often you come up the fence to chat, there's always that feeling of camaraderie here.

I was feeling pretty bad that I'm not in the position to donate right now since our little contracting gigs are slowing down along with the economy and then to my amazement, some kind and generous person took a minute of their time and $$ out of their pocket and included me.

So happy you were included too and you also get to feel that special, amazing feeling.

Enjoy your day!!

I try not to get too involved in it, because it can become an unpleasant popularity contest, but, of course, it does feel good to know that there are some who are able to care and "give a heart" rather than the silly and destructive ugliness that goes on here far too frequently.

I DO appreciate the thoughtfulness that lies behind the hearts that have been given to me!! I often wish there was a nice "Thank you" emoticon here, but in the meantime:
