***TO THOSE WHO CHANGED THEIR USERNAMES LAST MONTH***
I am just curious who you were and who you are now. How are you doing with your new username? Are you glad you made the change or do you regret it?

I really appreciate Skinner's warnings about post-change remorse that people had felt in the past, because it prepared me well for my own feelings now. Not that I would do things any differently if I was given the chance. I'm glad I changed my name. I really didn't think that my old username (whereismyparty) was the right one for the times and I like my new one. Not to mention that the abbreviation of whereismyparty (wimp) was not well thought out. But...I do feel sad that people don't seem to address me the same way anymore. They don't know me or wave to me as often. And I didn't get as many Valentine hearts this time :-(. That was a bummer. How are all of you faring?

You're responses would be greatly appreciated.

-- FourScore (aka whereismyparty)

5. I'm happy.
My old name was scubed, which I meant to mean S cubed, for my initials sss. Too many people thought it had to do with scuba, so I changed it to s-cubed. It's clearer now.

I went on DU abstinence for a while and now I have to play catch up. The downside is that I'm a lot busier at work now, so I don't really have as much time to goof off as I did during the primaries.

9. Formerly Gentle Giant, now Systematic Chaos.
I've gone from naming myself after one of the greatest progressive rock bands ever (1970 to 1980), to naming myself after the newest studio album from Dream Theater (one of the best progressive metal bands of today).

Why? Well, I'm definitely a giant, but I'm not always gentle. If I think someone is full of it on the internets, I'm going to let them know about it, and I'm not always going to bother to be polite, either. So, I guess you could just say I got a little tired of the occasional replies around here to the effect of "ZOMG ur not so Gentle r u!!1! Y u call urself teh Gentle Giant and den u talks 2 peeple dat way? I'm series!1!11!!!eleven" - to which I would think to myself "Get a fucking clue you fucking worthless retarded sperm bank!" before chuckling to myself and moving on with life. Those who know me best know that at heart I'm a really decent guy, I just have a lot of issues to work through (which I submit is a very common condition on the DU and in our own way we're all trying our hardest)....

And then there's the fact that sometimes Systematic Chaos better describes what's running through my messed-up head. Either way, it works for me! :)

12. Change
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 02:04 PM by Old Codger
Basically I changed mine as I had logged on originally in a little too much of a hurry and did not take time to get an "appropriate" handle, my usual one that I have used since before the internet in the old BBS days was already taken so just used the first thing that came to mind which was my name and age, name is still the same but age has changed so went with something a little more generic...not sorry I did.. (On edit) I doubt I was well enough known to make a difference.

25. I have mixed feelings about it.
I'm glad I made the change--my old username led people to make assumptions about me, and I really hadn't put much thought into it when I chose the name. At the same time, I was tofunut for 7 years, and the very few people who know me at all know me by that name. There are some posts I'm proud of that are linked to the name, and I feel as though I've lost something there.

So, I'm sort of nobody. It's weird.

27. Well, my name change was because I felt my original name no longer applied to me.
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 02:42 PM by 4lbs
It was originally "SurferBoy".

That's a nickname I was given in my late teens and early twenties by my older coworkers, as I frequently surfed off the coast of San Diego.

However, now I'm almost 40 years old, and haven't surfed since Dubya became President, I no longer felt it applied to me.

My current one is a tongue-in-cheek way of looking at me.

I was determined through a series of tests in my early years to be gifted with a large affinity for mathematics and science. I took to computer technology like a fish does to water. I was in San Diego's GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) program for most of my school years.

Therefore, "4lbs".

The average human brain weighs 3lbs. 4lbs is 1/3 larger than average.

:D

51. Debated over it until the LAST possible minute.
I originally wanted to just cap the first letters and remove the underscore to read; "Dr. Eldritch", but I've been through a lot lately, and I want to give myself something to aspire to. I want to do something for the country, for the world, and I even have something of a plan. I hope the new ID gives me the incentive.

53. I'm happy with my change. I didn't want the name "Bush" in my name anymore.
I wanted to keep the Berry part because it had become something I was known by. I was kind of toying with something that had Obama's name in it, but realized that would eventually be dating myself again. Then Countdown ran a segment on Obama's BlackBerry, and one of the chyron captions on it was "Berry Cool." I decided, that's it. It's kind of an oblique reference to Obama's reputation for "keepin' it cool," as they say on SNL (and another double entendre--"Barry Cool"). Yet it's generic enough that it won't sound dated as quickly.
