Poll question: DU POLL: Has the United States been sold into slavery?
Simple question:

If we give bankers a few trillion dollars, then pay them interest

Have we sold our children into slavery?

Ironic, isn't it. The first black President presiding over our sale into slavery!

Does anyone have a list of how much we owe to whom?

1. It didn't start with Obama.
We've been chattel for a very long time. People just believe the "freedom" hype.

3. It started with the Reagan/Bush debt, but we just sold of another generation. What's new
is giving the money to bankers AND paying interest on the debt.

We should just loan it to them! HUGE DO'H!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slavery is a word with such a horrible historical connotation to it.

Yes, I'm one of those "feel-good" liberals the conservatives are always talking about.

5. PC and true
yes, but I feel that it didn't start with Obama and this simulus package. Ever since we've outsourced our jobs and stopped manufacturing things it began. I guess it goes back to the 80s and maybe the 70s. Now we're happy to get any ol' job that we can to survive.

4. Yes, and it happened quite a while ago.
Fiat currency, aggressive foreign wars, unregulated capitalism and consumerism...

We were sold into bondage by the least among us long ago.

9. It is the exclamation point at the end of the process, but still ironic if not also symbolic.

13. You like to create straw-men arguments to give credence to a bigoted statement?
Obama did not create this situation, nor will he "preside" over a considerable amount of the "sale." This has been going on for decades and decades. Why do you wish to narrow this down?

15. Go back and reread the thread. Maybe you will understand the point.
Not to mention:
Everyone on DU should know ell enough to be skeptical of every politician!

Why is everyone treated Obama like a later-day Moses? Talk, talk, talk? Promises. Nixon promised to end the war, remember?

Let's see some change already!!

10. Yes, I think the bailout and the "stimulus" package are wastes of money...
I hope to be proven wrong, but I doubt it will help much.
