Should we welcome Joe Lieberman back into the Party??
When Al Franken becomes the 59th Senator, we will only need one vote to break the Republican filibusters. Could Holy Joe ever be forgiven and welcomed back into the Party, if it gave us the votes to hammerlock the Republicans?

1. He is already counted as one of the 59. So is Sanders.

2. I sent him a 'thank you' last night.
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 07:05 PM by liberalmuse
He supported us on the stimulus and worked to get DC representation. He also votes with us more than not, and he gives a shit about the environment, unlike the majority of 'pubs. I told him I had been upset with his speech at the RNC, but also let him know I was more liable at this point to not send his primary opponent money this time around.

3. he is a very reliable Dem vote on all things besides military
I can guarantee Obama is going to want some things some conservative Dems will not support.

4. He has made a deal with Reid to vote with us in order to keep his committee chairmanship.
He was bought and paid for to vote Dem.

5. Is he asking for that?
Frankly, he really seemed to go to bat for the stimulus bill. He may not like Obama as president, but one would not know that by his performance last week. That bill is not something his candidate would have supported.

I don't know. On the one hand, there has to be some level of party discipline. One cannot pull a Zell Miller and then expect to be our buddy again. On the other hand, I don't want us to be a bunch of robots where members of Congress are not free to disagree.

10. It's called trying to save one's ass. He was teetering on irrelevance...
and Joe's ego and self-absorption need to be fed.

He had no choice but to go along with the Dems and Obama and make it look like he is going above and beyond.

Did you see the poll last week showing how in danger is at home in 2010.

Joe is saving his ass. Please don't give him so much credit. A few months ago, he was tutoring Sarah Palin on foreign policy for god's sake. Remember?

7. We Need A Few GOOP Liebermans
To answer your question: No! Or should I be more subtle: HELL NO!

Joe's been behaving himself since President Obama had a little chit-chat with him right after the election...and I've been watching his voting closely. Yes, he's been on the right side, but you don't count your allies when the wind is at your back, but the other way around. Let's see if he stays with the party when it comes to defense or foreign affairs (especially Israel).

If anything, we need a couple GOOPermans...Snowe, Collins, Specter, Voinovich...I'm not particular. While Democrats angst about the 60 vote threshold, the GOOP and Pruneface McConnel are hard-pressed to keep his little coalition together. We've seen it over and over again...too bad the corporate media hasn't. The Stimulus Bill's passage was a HUGE victory for the Democrats and a devestating loss to the GOOP. Don't let anyone say different.

Cheers...

8. He has proven that he cannot be trusted. He will turn on us again.
He is getting old and I hope there is something in his future that will prevent him from ever running for office again. I am not not wishing him ill will. Liars and deceitful people should not be a voice in our country.

21. Because he lost the primary.
He then ran as an independent to exploit the weak Republican candidate's vulnerability and the built-in incumbent advantage.

17. (shrug) Sure. More and better Democrats are what we need....
Take care of the "more" part with him, take care of the "better" part via the primaries.

Of course that relies on the fucking jackass fuckwipe pathetic Connecticut electorate. So we might be screwed.

18. Lieberman is not crying to get back into the Party and he does caucus with the Dems
and most often does vote with the Dems. There are members of Congress who just because they have a "D" after does not mean they will vote with the Dems and a number do not.
