I've been a member of DU since 2004

The site runs specific fundraisers for 1000 donations four times a year. That's for a progressive web site that rarely has technical problems. I remember when we couldn't keep going during major debates and elections. Those problems are history. That's the kind of transparency I want. I can see that my money is used to improve the site.

I can't speak for anyone else but from where I sit that's money well spent. As long as I can afford it, DU will receive donations from me.

reworded.

7. This is my first time donating.
I wasn't able to before now. I did, because I love this place and I think it is well worth a few bucks.

It was great fun to give hearts away, too.:)

10. Sounds Like Someone Needed Some Attention Around Here
This isn't a charity or a public utility. Many of us are here for the community, the opportunity to speak out and network with others who feel the same way. That's the money I donate. However Skinner uses it is his business, cause DU IS his business. As long as I can pull up DU on my browser and throw a few of my thoughts is well worth the several hundred dollars I donate here every year...and will continue to do so.

Sounds like a person looking to get attention...DU has cultivated quite a culture of Drama Kings and Queens..

Cheers...

11. Been here since the '04 election. It takes $ to run a site like this, and
I use it frequently even if I don't post a lot of OPs. I believe in supporting sites I like, and I really like this one. I also believe in giving donations if there is some freeware software I download and find useful.

The various forums have something for almost every interest. This is probably the best organized, cleanest, bug-free board I have ever seen. Keeping it running like a well-tuned engine takes time and effort...and money.

12. I've always donated before
And as soon as I find a job, I intend to again. The service this board provides is worth every penny I've ever given.

The people who run this place deserve to be paid for their efforts. It does more to help me keep my sanity that a squad of psychiatrists: the last eight years would have driven me even more round the twist than I already am had I not been able to sign on here. 'Nuff said.

14. I've been here almost from the beginning
and have seen the improvements they've made over the years to make it one of the best socially interactive websites on the internet. There is no way I can measure the amount of knowledge I've gained since being here, but I can say the money I've donated so far is nowhere near the value of that knowledge. I think I'd go through serious withdrawal if DU had to close up shop because they could no longer afford to pay for their expensive bandwidth and other fees it takes to run a website this size. I've always been amazed they can maintain on just 4000 donations a year. :hi:
