Republicans practicing Reverse-Schadenfreude?
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 02:35 PM by Postman
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/16/the-house-gop-is-back-rep_n_167213.html

Republicans in the House of Representatives are trying to mold success out of what is, at its core, a legislative failure. The most recent bit of gloating: a back-slapping YouTube clip from minority whip Eric Cantor's office, set to the tune of Aerosmith's "Back In The Saddle."

"The House GOP is back," reads Cantor's website. Indeed. Having been relegated so far into the minority so as to be incapable of stopping a stimulus bill that it deemed wasteful and liberal, the GOP is taking solace in the unity of its opposition

If one didn't know better, this could pass as an Onion article.

1. It's the same type of motivational b.s. that's used in various industries.
There's never a failure, it's an opportunity.

2. Sounds like good old fashioned spin to me

If the legislation fails, then they could purse their lips and enjoy it. But that hasn't happened yet.

They don't get to declare it's a failure when, according to David Schuster this morning, some Republicans in the House put out press releases patting themselves on the back for fighting to get certain amendments included in the Stimulus.

Edit - P.S. I think I'm having a hard time figuring out was reverse schadenfreude really is!

3. I once got a LTTE published in 2004 saying
"Let's put the Republicans in the place they do best ... whining about how the world would be a better place, the economy would be great," blah blah blah "if only they controlled the Presidency, the House, the Senate, the Judiciary," etc.
