White House Not Challenging Rove's Privilege
White House Not Challenging Rove's Privilege
Posted by Mark Knoller

The Obama White House is not challenging whether a valid claim of “executive privilege” can keep former presidential advisor Karl Rove from testifying in the matter of the U.S. Attorney firings during the Bush Administration.

In a statement provided to CBS News, White House Counsel Gregory Craig says Pres. Obama is “very sympathetic to those who want to find out what happened.”

But at the same time, Craig makes it clear that Mr. Obama is not disputing the claim of privilege.

“He is also mindful as president of the United States not to do anything that would undermine or weaken the institution of the presidency,” Craig says in the statement.

A White House spokesman says the Counsel’s Office is still studying the question of executive privilege.

1. I think they should challenge it
While it's admirable that he doesn't want to weaken the office, protecting invented BS assertions of privilege does not enhance the office.

To be honest -- The Imperial Presidency crap has got to stop. The office needs to go back to being 1/3 of the Federal Government.

The crap the admin of DUH-bya pulled is the proof of this

2. Wrong title for article....

"A White House spokesman says the Counsel’s Office is still studying the question of executive privilege."

How can they title the article that way when the WH is still studying the issue?

3. Yes, by why challenge it right away? There are greater immediate
problems at the moment. Rove isn't going anywhere.

5. This is exactly what Rove was bragging about.
He said there was no way Obama would go against the Executive Privilege Claim because he may need it himself someday. Rove has been right more than he has been wrong, in what he says anyway. Not in his actions..
