I heard over the week-end that the repugs added $30
{$30 Trillion} to our national debt over their 8 years. True?

Where can the hard #s be found?

5. Why, oh why don't they use charts like this for the federal elections?
And back them up with the sources, instead of both sides sling mud and outrageous lies?

2. thirty trillion is not right
unless people are playing the "real deficit" game and adding in current obligations to baby boomers. The numbers I got from SAUS were "National debt went from $5.6 trillion in 2000 to almost $9 trillion in 2007,"

Actually $5,628.7 to $8,950.7.

Of course Bush started in 2001, but since the 2000 budget was balanced that probably gives him some credit. I don't have the number for 2008.

Statistical Abstract of the United States (SAUS)

Another useful set of numbers is $909 billion, which was the debt up to 1980. By 1990 after a decade of Reaganomics, it was $3,206.3

4. I worked it out at closer to 4.5 Trillion

Over the 8 years bush was in charge, he borrowed 450 billion a year on average for the budget. But in the last few months of his presidency, he borrowed closer to another Trillion for the Tarp and the old stimulus plan.
