Poll question: Should corporations have the right to tell people what they can and can not do in their own home? |
|
For example; should Olive Garden have the right to tell their employees they are forbidden to drink alcohol when they are not at work?

It's a condition of employment ... and they're fired if they're shown to be smoking by blood test. They're even considering prohibiting spouses of employees from smoking.

I'm an air traffic controller, so I have similar rules.
Making me abstain from alcohol for 8 hours before working to be sure there's no alcohol in my system when I report for work is a lot different than telling me I simply can't drink when I'm off duty.

... provided it doesn't violate law or any preexisting employment contracts.
i.e. The DNC should feel within their rights to not employ people who donate that salary to the RNC, IMHO.
An employee has a right to leave that employer.

25. It's different for sports. |
|
Playing in the MLB is not like being an Olive Garden waiter. Olive Garden is not a competition.
I don't think I've ever heard anyone else argue that steroid use is a privacy issue, so I guess your opinion is interesting in that way. If they want to take drugs that don't affect their performance then I would agree with you, but since steroids clearly do affect performance they should not be legal and I hope the MLB increases their crackdown on them.
If you were a big sports fan like many of us are, you would understand. But you're letting you're non-sports opinions cloud your views and you are just dead wrong here and it's not even debatable.

Olive Garden is in competition with other restaurants.
so I guess your opinion is interesting in that way.
I'll take this as a compliment. Thank you.
you're letting you're non-sports opinions cloud your views
I feel pro-sports opinions are causing the clouds. I think people forget sports are just a game, like checkers.
it's not even debatable.
Then how are we debating it?

|
So I feel obligated to respond to it. Olive Garden is in competition with other restaurants sure, but are you aware of some kind of performance-enhancing drugs waiters and waitresses are taking? I'd love to have that information.
Who's forgetting sports are just a game? I know they're just a game, and I'd like everybody playing them to be on a fair playing field. If people are taking steroids, then that is not fair. It's really pretty simple.
If the players want to smoke up imbetween games, then I couldn't care less. But weed doesn't make them play better and steroids do. It's a pretty simple concept.

60. Steroids take a toll on the users health. |
|
There's a whole new generation of youth playing baseball right now. My son is one of them. I don't want him to feel the need to inject horse drugs to compete just because everyone else is doing it. Those who take steroids to gain a competitive advantage are cheating. When an entire culture of doping exists in a sport, those up and coming athletes must use the steroids to have any chance of advancing to the higher level.
